Micevic new Aust light heavy champ!

Post by mano loco »

Well done to Charlie, Louie and most importantly Zdravko for winning the vacant Australian light heavyweight title from teak-tough Townsville lad Joel Casey on Friday night.

In a fast-paced, action packed fight Micevic had to pick himself up off the canvas in the 10th and final round to win a clear decision by scores of 97-91, 95-94 and 98-90.

As the second score card suggests, Micevic didn't have it all his own way after sweeping the first four frames. Pacing himself for his first ten rounder allowed Casey to creep back into the fight in the middle rounds, but Micevic's quicker hands and mobility kept Casey guessing.

The ninth round probably should have gone to Casey, while the last round was an all-out war - one of the best rounds of boxing I've witnessed live or on TV domestically this year.

Other results:
McCracken by comfortable decision over Heta
Njock quit on his stool after four against Mumtaz
Anaba unlucky not to get the nod against Sheferaw - draw

I dont think i would have prefered to watch this over Leapai v Cronje, Foxtel made the right choice.

Thanks for the well wishes guys. It certainly was a great night. I've recieved dozens of calls from people still buzzing from last nights fights. Brilliant effort from both guys. Casey was there to win and that straight left that floored Micevic in the 10th was a testiment to his determination and Micevic's courage getting back on his feet and almost flooring Casey 30 seconds later had all the crowd on their feet chanting and cheering each blow.

Saw Njock VS Kane McKay and I think Chas was losing the plot towards the end. He did get some points deducted in that one. But he almost turned his back a couple of times.

Didn't see this one, but 'quit on his stool' doesn't sound too flattering. Did he take much punishment?

Yeah certainly a problem with him. Seems to go great for a few rounds then falls in a heap. Third time I've seen him do that. I see him train and know his fitness is good. Maybe doesn't handle the pressure well. Either way it's back to the drawing board with him and he certainly needs to re-evaluate his career.
