Re: World Title Trivia
Carlos Ortiz on the left.
Not sure who that is on the right.

Let's see if anyone gets it. I think there are a couple of lads on here who will get it. They might still be in bed. (Not together!)Expug wrote:I dont think Im gonna be able to come up with the gentlemen in the picture with Bugner Collins.Im really curious though.

That photo of Gomez was taken at the 2005 or 2006 Hall of Fame inductions.
What a great fighter he seemed to be at 122 pounds. Never the same after Sanchez smashed him to pieces though at 126. Still managed to pick up 'world' titles in two more divisions though.

Your right about Gomez at 122 pounds Collins.Collins2000 wrote:Let's see if anyone gets it. I think there are a couple of lads on here who will get it. They might still be in bed. You and I remember his heyday. He looked unstoppable didnt he?
After he beat Zarate in particular.
Bazooka was a helluva fighter no doubt.I still cant believe he lost to Alfredo Layne.
I know he was a little past it and wasnt the same after Sanchez , but nevertheless.

1. for the ten pound pom clue - I'd have been lost without it, and
2. for not posting the answer the same day as the question.

1. Correct!
2. In the other one, Expug got one of them and I felt like talking to him about Gomez. We can still discuss if you wish. All comments welcome.
Re: World Title Trivia
Michael was born in England and came over here for a while as world champ but F rank Warren was unable to secure a McGuigan fight for him. He did pound Najib Daho in Manchester and his wife was well worth 'snapping'.

Hence the "10 pound pom" clue.bennie wrote:Michael was born in England and came over here for a while as world champ but F rank Warren was unable to secure a McGuigan fight for him. He did pound Najib Daho in Manchester and his wife was well worth 'snapping'.
I was at that fight, bennie.
Langton Tinago was on the undercard smashing an Aboriginal lad, Graeme Brook, in a CW fight.
Also Eddie Smith beating future centurion Winston Burnett is crushing fashion.

They've got the Layne fight on youtube, Pug, and Layne is unbelievable. He just put it all together in an absolute war and the fight finished both men.
Re: World Title Trivia
No way would I have got Gomez. Not the same without the moustache.
Watching the Snachez fight on TV the atmosphere seemed electric.
