Gatti death decision

Post by DG. »

Gatti death ruled a suicide
Wife to be released

Brazilian police have concluded that former world champion Arturo Gatti’s death was by his own hand. As a result, the court has ordered the release of his wife Amanda Rodrigues, who has been held since Gatti’s death on July 12 in Brazil. (More to come)

RIP Champ.

The problem with Gatti's death is the country he died in. Brazil has such a high murder rate with a shitty/corrupt police force it's hard to believe they are equiped enough to investigate properly.

Think this will drag on for quite a while, seeing as reports said Gatti suffered a blow to the head, its quite hard to see how he killed himself.
Only thing i can think is he hung himself , and whatever he used snapped resulting in him hitting his head.

He was very drunk according to witnesses who saw him earlier, and i've known blokes who've topped themselves after drinking alot, completly out of the blue really. Alcohol can make people do strange things.

Patholgist reveals Gatti hung for 3 hours

Post by whiskey »

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Brazilian police say Arturo Gatti hung himself with a bag strap that he tied around a wooden staircase.

Milena Saraiva, a spokeswoman for Recife police, says police first thought Gatti was strangled by his wife as his body was found on the floor.

She says there were no immediate signs Gatti had hung himself. But the autopsy report indicated Gatti was suspended off the ground for about three hours on July 11. A crime scene analysis found markings on a column of the staircase.

Gatti was found several hours later by his 23-year-old Brazilian wife Amanda Rodrigues.

Rodrigues was freed Thursday after police ruled Gatti's death a suicide.

Mmmmm.

Somehow if he was inebriated i doubt he would have the sense to dismantle a handbag strap and hang himself ?

Must have been a hell of a long handbag strap.

Very fishy indeed if you ask me.

GATTI FAMILY TO EXHUME BODY FOR SECOND AUTOPSY

Friends and family of former Montreal boxing champion Arturo Gatti refuse to believe he committed suicide.

His brother said Thursday the family will ask to have his remains exhumed so a Quebec coroner can perform another autopsy.

Gatti's body was found in a Brazilian hotel room earlier this month. His widow, Amanda Rodrigues, 23, was detained for nearly three weeks on suspicion of murder.

But on Thursday, state court Judge Ildete Verissimo de Lima in the city of Recife ordered that Rodrigues be released immediately .

"The victim ... committed suicide by hanging," Lima's ruling read, referring to the findings of a police investigation.

Arturo's brother, Joe Gatti, said he's stunned that she's been exonerated.
'It's a Third World country'

"It's a Third World country. It is hard — they got their own rules. We can't take her into our country, into Canada, and indict her there, or try her there. But come on!" he said.

Gatti family friend Ivano Scarpa said the release of Gatti's widow in Brazil will impede the effort to bring Gatti's son, 10-month-old Arturo Jr., back to Canada.

"It's going to be a lengthy process. Obviously the fact that she's out, walking, doesn't help the family here," he said.

Scarpa said he hopes the results of a Canadian autopsy would support the Gatti family's claim for custody of the boy.
Nobody in boxing world thinks Gatti killed himself

Former boxing champion Otis Grant said he doesn't have much faith in the results of the investigation in Brazil.

"I can tell you for a fact that the Arturo that everybody knew was a guy that loved his friends, loved his family, loved being who he was. So, for him to commit suicide just doesn't make sense," Grant said.

Grant says nobody he's spoken to in the boxing world believes Gatti killed himself.

"He was someone who brought a great credibility to this city. And as far as I'm concerned, his legacy as a boxer is cemented in history as one of the greatest, one of the most exciting fighters that ever put on a pair of boxing gloves."

I believe anyone is capable of committing suicide. And furthermore, do we always have to assume incompetence or other influences when a poor country comes up with a verdict.

Why should we presuume that?

Can anyone ever say "oh yes, I had him down as a suicide certainty" about anyone, instinctively you will always say "never, not him".

Even if she did do it, she may have had a reason.

People do get dirven to murder all the time.

Let's face it, we know nothing about what went on between them, what their life together was like. If he did it, if she did it; why he did it, why she did it.

I don't understand.
Are they saying he hung himself, died and then crawled into another room and ended up on the floor?
Did he hang himself then fall after he had died onto the spot where she found him 10 hours later(even though she was in the same apartment)

It seems ever so slightly fishy based on the very little they have given.
Either way, it wasn't a great way for such a fella to go out.

Was Gatti "connected"?

Anyone ever seen To Die For starring Nicole Kidman? Maybe his widow will end up going ice skating.

Well im sure if i came home drunk and tried to hang myself from the bloody staircase i think either my mrs or my baby son would hear something dont you ??

Must have been a hell of a handbag to generate enough rope to strangle a 12 stone man for 3+ hours.

Usually when something dont add up it's because it's total bullcrap.

If he was a suicide-merchant then i doubt he'd do it in the place, yards from where his baby son slept !

I think she smashed him round the back of the head, before choking him whilst he was semi-concious. Then my spin is that she endeavoured to string him up to look like he hung himself from somewhere high up. Either on her own or with help.

I'm sure I read he was stabbed in the head as well in the immediate aftermath. I guess you can't believe anything you read when it's all breaking news but I would have thought that would be pretty fatal.
