Hopkins is in the game for the money these days, as well as a legacy. I bet if the Germans came up with a fortune, he's even travel to defend against Sturm.

On these grounds, it would be a really attractive proposition for all concerned.

There would also be the intrigue of a home town decision to spice it up too.

Which is why Nard would make sure he knocked him out.

Neither do I have anything against Kohl in fact. He is a decent promoter and manager.

It is just that I didn't like Sturm being robbed vs. DLH. But it happened. So now I don't like the idea that Hopkins could be stripped by WBO without any reason. He won his belts outright.
It is impossible for Hopkins to defend all 4 titles and to hold them for a long time. in every organization there´s a #1 who has a right for a title fight. maybe he can defend all 4 titles vs. Sturm because he is in every organization in the top 5 after the last weekend. but it is very difficult. I think the WBO doesn´t want to take the belt from Hopkins. they want a Sturm-Hopkins-fight.

on the other hand Hopkins wants to have a big oney fight vs. Jones or Tarver. Does he make more than 3 fights in the rest of his career? he would make 2 fights in 2005 and mayb a last fight in 2006. in his age he doesn´t switch weight. so i think he makes one or maximum two fights in middle and the rest in light heavy.

yesterday Sturm was in a TV show and said that he doesn´t believe in a bout with Hopkins. he thinks that Hopkins doesn´t fight in middle anymore.......we´ll see

I don't know about that Dave, I would have thought they would have built it up a bit first before putting them in together. Depends how many more fights B-hop wants. I suppose he could just take on Tito then Winky, then retire.

I think so too, but everytime i mention it people don't seem to agree. It's a case of what else is out there for Hopkins if he's going to make a 20th defence and generate a huge amount of cash aswell. Trinidad is the best possible option.

Cant see why this fight needs building up, its a rematch, both have just won massive fights and both are established profile stars....and the Puerto Rican element ensures a sell-out and big PPV.

Waiting dont achieve anything.

I'd say Hop has 2-3 fight left. One has to be this one. And surely if he's to bulk up after, it has to be the next one.

do you think one fight vs. Mayorga after 2 years of inactivity qualifies to fight for 4 middleweight titles?

Yes.

Do you think one contentious defeat to an ill-prepared DLH makes you a mandatory?

Nah.

Money talks. Tito is the next available guy. Sturm remains a nobody.

Sorry.

And if you wonder why...buy Bruce Hornseby and the Range's Greatest Hits...its all in there.

It is Eastman who should have been awarded a close decision in this fight imo. I would rate his performance in Joppy fight higher than in his later fights, especially the last one with Tatevosyan. But still Eastman is a good and tough puncher.
No way did Eastman win that. It was close, but he was getting nailed way too often by Joppy, who maintaned a good workrate throughout. Eastman started working too late, and his slack workrate cost him the fight. Eastman was angry afterwards, but I honestly believe he has nobody but himself to blame. Had he put his foot on the gas 3 rounds earlier, he might have stopped Joppy, but it seems to be his nature to want to fight at his own pace, and he was getting drilled with all sorts of shots by Joppy when he tried to step it up sometimes.

It's just my opinion, but I had Joppy by 2 rounds, even with the knockdown, though there were some fairly close rounds.

Felix was WBO-champ and the robbery vs. de la Tortilla-Kournikova made him more popular in the USA. DLTK wasn´t much better in the Hopkins-fight and was the most overrated boxer of all time. Thanks Hopkins for sending this one into retirement.

He is #1 now in WBO and top 5 in all other organization. only ignorants say that he is a nobody. he is the one with the biggest future in this division and actually the second best.

that´s just the way it is

Can he sell a PPV....? that's what matters. I think he has a chance of a marking time bout for 20th defence, and no more than that.

Jermaine Taylor would be a bigger bout in the states.

Felix would sell as much PPVs in the US like the US-normal-guy or e.g. Taylor.

i say it again: the real big money for Hopkins is not in middle. i doubt he will fight in middle again if he wants to make the maximum money.

if he makes one more fight Felix has good chances.

I don't agree, Jermaine Taylor has been very heavily promoted as the next big thing, despite the fact Sturm got props for his poor decision against Oscar, he's not had that profiling.

Taylor isn't a normal guy, he is being sold to the American public as the heir apparent to the middleweight titles Hopkins holds. It may be too soon for Taylor to ever get a shot against Hopkins.

The problems for Hopkins are that he is at a massive disadvantage against Jones, Tarver or Toney. All of these men would outweight him by at least 30 lbs, and in Toney's case about 60+ come fight night. Personally, unless Hopkins is getting a huge amount of money, and dictating terms, I don't see any of these fights happening. How on earth is he going to dicate terms to Jones, who won't even fight Tarver again without a belt for leverage. Toney is looking to heavyweight, and Tarver wants Jones.

Tarver is probably the best bet, but he's going to be weighing around 190+ on fight night, and that's a huge disadvantage. I cannot see Hopkins coming in more than 165, and this ain't like Jones V Ruiz, it's much more evenly pitched. Tarver has the power to really shock Hopkins and I think he is too tall and too rangy for Bernard.

i don´t see a problem in making 6 or 7 kilos weight for Hopkins in half a year. it´s more realistic than RJJ would lose the same on weight.

we all don´t know now if Hopkins wants the maximum money or the maximum title defenses. so all this is just speculation.

but, again, if he stays in middle Felix has a chance for a fight.

I don't understand why people are talking about Felix Sturm challenging Hopkins. He is not the worlds 2nd best middleweight. For all anyone knows he may not even be top 5. I thought he beat Oscar but he really wasn't all that impressive, all he done was stick his jab out and his record suggests he has little power.

From what we have seen of Oscar lately he might not even have been top 5 in middleweight. He's sure as hell not going to knock these big guys out, and then with his suspect stamina, theirs a good few middles that would beat Oscar imo. Its been a long time since Oscar impressed in a fight, way back against Vargas.

Roy Jones Ko Hopkins if they fought imo, probably with a bodyshot. But Roy WILL win, I have no doubt. I have no idea what would happen in a Tarver fight, Tarver blows hot and cold but he'd be up for this. The verbal exchanges before the fight would be good.

There is a lot of nonsense being spouted here.

6 or 7 Kilos is a lot of weight for a man like Hopkins to put on, he is a small framed middleweight who comes in light because he trains so damned hard rather than letting himself go between fights, he would lose some of his speed and efficiency with another 6-7 kilos, and even doing so would be giving away a huge amount of weight to any of those three.

Do you think Tarver weighs 175 on fight night, I very much doubt it, seeing as his walk around is 212, he is probably at least 190 on the night, and Hopkins would struggle to even get to 170 let alone 175. For a fighter his age to bulk up could also have unpredictable results, plus he would have to contend with the feeling of being that much heavier for the first time. Toney is a beast of a man these days, i watched some trianing footage today, and although he has a slight gut, he looks fornicating huge at heavyweight, massive shoulders and upper body, and even with not a pick of fat he's going to weigh 210 easy. Hopkins would get hammered giving away all that weight against someone with Toney's punch precision.

if he wants to take on any of those guys, good luck to him, but unless it's one of his very last fights, or for caboodles of money, I don't think he will, not when he can beat Tito up again first.

With regard to DLH, there is nothing to prove he was even the best light middleweight in the world, he beat Vargas because of their styles, i have serious doubts about his ability to beat winky, who doesn;t have stamina problems and is much better defensively than oscar or Vargas.

Oscar's best days were at lightweight, and he did well at welter, it's diminishing returns now and I think that even with good conditioning there's a brace of middleweights who would give him big problems. hopkins outthought him, others like Eastman might just have bashed him up, Sturm is flattered by that performance, let us see how he does against a big strong middleweight like Jermaine Taylor who uses the jab first before making him a strong contender to Hopkins.

Why then was Roy Jones able to fight in heavy and then go back to light heavy weight as a former middleweight? we´ll see what Hopkins does.....

BTW Felix is top 5 in almost all organizations and is ranked #2 at fightnews who are not german.....
