This is great news as Witter needs the motivation.

That said I think he's going to get stopped or lose a U/D

Both Ricky and Junior have done the business on the world stage and we as Brits should collectively be proud of them both. Frankly its a bit sickening when i see British folk laughing at a photo of a prone Hatton.

I have enough of Americans pulling our fighters apart, without having to listen to my own countrymen doing it.

When Junior Witter fights at the weekend i hope he kicks poop out of Devon Alexander, When/if Ricky Hatton fights again i'll hope he kicks poop out of whoever he faces. If Ricky and Junior ever do meet in a ring then of course i'll have my favourite, but till then i want to see both do well.
Hatton the man of the people started it by not giving us the fight!

Witter looks in great condition, his opponent looks weak in comparison, lets hope it transates to a ko win for Witter!

Do you and anyone honestly think the WBC would have turned down the opportunity of a nice big fat sanctioning fee?

Sheffield fighter Junior Witter had one pound to spare as he weighed in for his shot at the vacant WBC super lightweight title in California on Saturday night.

Witter, the 35-year-old former WBC champion, tipped the scales at 139 pounds in Rancho Mirage ahead of his fight with undefeated American Devon Alexander - who weighed in at 138.5 pounds.

Topping the bill at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in a 140-pound division title doubleheader, undefeated WBO light-welterweight champion Timothy Bradley weighed in at 139 pounds with the WBO's number one contender and former world lightweight champion Nate Campbell coming in at 138.5 pounds.

just found this little quote from junior.

The fights in the US so everything's in his favour but Junior "The Hitter" Witter loves a challenge and the Hitter's going to take his title back home."

and people hate it when hatton speaks in the third person.

Hatton had it signed into a contract clause with Warren that he must face Witter within a certain amount of fights....the fight contractually had to happen. But Junior then left Warren and at that point the fight died a death.

Sure it could have happened later, but just when Junior was building up a serious head of steam, he went and blew it by taking Bradley lightly and finding himself minus a title.

I don't think its fair to solely point the finger at Hatton as to why the fight between himself and Witter hasn't happened. Both have played their part.

I agree Junior looks great on the scales, i hope he fights upto his undoubted potential and absolutely hammers Devon Alexander.

If you genuinely think that, either you don't know the history and weren't following boxing during 2003-2005 or you are just a Hatton fan blinded.
If Junior had never left Warren when he did then the fight would have happened..

I'm well aware Hatton showed little interest in a Witter fight later when both had moved onto the world stage, but in all fairness Hatton was fighting the likes of Mayweather.

When exactly was the timing right for a Hatton/Witter fight?

Witter's last few fights have been horrendous to watch. I hope Alexander wins and we don't have to see Witter again to be honest.

July 2001, Junior Witter KO's Alan Temple. Hatton was ringside and after the fight both boxers have this exchange on camera.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJS-HttWeio

Witter wins his next 4 fights by KO, not being extended past 3 rounds. Hatton wins his next 5 fights too. The big domestic fight is being built up every time they fight.

September 2002, Witter calls Hatton out for a fight, Hatton fights STEPHEN SMITH. No reason why the Witter fight shouldn't have happened here.

November 2002, Witter destroys Giuseppi Lauri faster than Hatton did. Again they have verbals after the fight and Witter tells Hatton to "put up or shut up". If Witter wins his fight tonight, I'll upload that confrontation to youtube later.

April 2003, Witter is extensively calling Hatton out. Hatton fights an old Vince Phillips. People on forums want to see the Hatton Witter fight badly. Hatton is the one who isn't making it happen. Witter is calling him out in every interview. Witter beats Jurgen Haeck on the undercard of that fight and calls Hatton out again yet again.

September 2003, Hatton fights ALDO RIOS in a disgraceful fight. Why not fight Witter here?

December 2003, Hatton fights Ben Tackie. Why not fight Witter here?

April 2004, After a fighter pulls out of a fight against Hatton, Witter offers himself up at short notice and says Hatton can have the purse, all he wants is his training expenses. Hatton fights blown up 126 pounder Dennis Holbaek Pederson instead.

June 2004, Witter AGAIN calls Hatton out for the fight. Hatton signs to fight CARLOS WILFREDO VILCHES instead. Witter leaves Warren.

And believe me, I could go on.

So why don't you start by explaining why Hatton was right not to fight Witter instead of fighting the above fighters one at a time.

:TU:
The fight needed building for much of the timescale you mentioned. It was too good a matchup to be fought for peanuts and lets face it, Warren was pulling the strings and he wasn't going to let two of his best face each other for anything less than top dollar. The fight seemingly had the potential to be as big as Eubank/Benn, Warren obviously didn't really want it fought for just domestic honours.

It is fact that Hatton after growing sick of Juniors goading wouldn't sign a contract extention with Warren until it was written into the deal that he must get a Witter fight within i believe 3 more bouts. Then Junior went and left Warren and also the chance to fight Hatton. I don't blame Junior(or indeed any fighter) for leaving Warren, but the Hatton fight was there for him to have at that point if he'd only stayed put.

But maybe if Junior does the business tonight it could still yet happen.

During the latter part of thetimescale posted by lirva, the Hatton-Witter fight was big enough to take place. I went to many Hatton fights around the time including Tackie and Vilches and remember wondering "Why aren't we watching Witter in there instead?"
