Bowie was knifed in only 52 seconds into the second round against an opponent with only a journeyman record.

In a major upset, unheralded Heavyweight Demetrius King stopped Bowie Tupou in the second round of a scheduled eight round fight. As both fighters traded hard shots in the first round, King (15-17, 13 KO’s) dropped Tupou with a right hand to the head at the end of the round. Tupou was on shaky legs to start the second round and was dropped by an accumulation of punches by King. Tupou (18-1, 14 KO’s) tried to fight back, but was on unsteady legs against the ropes, prompting referee Ray Corona to step in and stop the bout at 52 seconds

Demetrice King has lost more than he has won but has a good KO percentage. He is 15-17 with 13 KO wins. He has only been stopped once and that was by Shannon 'The Cannon' Briggs.

Maybe Bowie should have given himself space.

It just reaffirms that 15-17 fighters in the US can be too much for 15-0 fighters from here. No disrespect intended, it's true.

Kerry Foley also lost to a guy with a very modest looking record.

I agree perfect jet, a 15-17 record in the US, can be the equivelent of 16-1 here.

bowie tupou tried to pad his record no matter where he went, not fighting any high quality fighters here and only journeymen overseas, don't believe the hype, its the opponents on the record that matter, nothing less,no matter where you go.

He fought the blokes the promoters put into the ring with him. In the organizing of fights the boxers are only the labourers.

it's certainly a fight he couldn't really afford to lose.

maybe he was looking too far past his opponent and paid the price.

another example of mouthing off a bit prematurely.

Give the Guy a bloody chance...some people are just too hard to please. How the hell is Bowie suppose to learn if he doesn't get fights like this??? Funny how some people expect too much and kick a man while he's down.
You must remember the trainer/manager ultimately decides who Bowie fights.

bowie should have fought good fighters while he was in OZ just like Kali Meehan did to get his experience Kali only had a hand full of fights outside of OZ which i don't think helped him a great deal his main experience happened here that give him the skills to nearly take the world crown off Brewster. bowie never fought anyone good here why should he get respect.

So what your saying is all the fighters Bowie has fought so far are bums? Keep in mind he also doesn't have an amateur background but has progressed quite well in the last 2-3years.

How the heck do you put Kali up with Bowie? Kali has been on another level than most of the heavyweights here. He's had quality sparring in the US & Uk, recently with David Haye and has had a shot at World title which we all know he got ripped off. Not too sure why you think going overseas hasn't helped him.

You've got to understand why Bowie left before you make an assumption. He left not because he was running away, but the opportunity arose to train with world class trainers and boxers. (Personal choice of course). Specifically quality sparring partners. Which if you asked most of the top 10 heavyweights here in OZ is very rare to get on a consistent basis. Sure he still has a lot to learn, and maybe once his camp feels he's ready, he'll face some of our top heavies.

With regards to respect...you respect any fighter that steps into the ring.

Maybe he should of stayed in oz with johnny lewis instead of jumping on a plane and telling no one he was going, prove yourself here first.

Maybe it's a good idea for Bowie to fight back here a couple of times, I've never seen this guy fight from memory.

you never seen bowie fight because he never fought anyone as far as respect goes it's easy to fight an overweight thai guy when your 120 kilo
theres no competition how brave is that and kali got sparring overseas when he beat the best here first ,but who did bowie fight before he took off and left his trainer now don't tell me johnny lewis hasn't got the connections to get him good sparring here or abroad.

just shows the difference in level between oz and the usa. more importantly it just shows not to underestimate guy will average at best looking records. Bowie is very raw still and demetrice king had fought alot of top guys bowie would have meant nothing to him

as i said david, some people r just bitter.

other than kali meehan, bowie tupou has probably done better than most of the other heavyweights from australia.

yes he lost to a guy he couldn't really afford to, and yes he probably was getting carried away with what abilities he has and/or will gain. but that doesn't mean he is a disgrace to the sport and australia(or where ever he is from).

there is nothing wrong with boxers whether they choose to go to america or whether they stay here and compete with fellow aussies. nobody tells u where u should work david, so who r u to rubbish boxers as to what they should do.

bowie tupou is probably going to go little further in world boxing as the hopoates and haumonos of the sport, but at least he is man enough to give it a go.

Yeah, and if he'd stayed at home people would criticise him for that. Who has he got to prove himself against domestically? He's already better than Hoppa, Mirovic, Wilson, Leapai etc. At least he gave it a go. A disastrous result to be sure, but you can't fault a man for trying.

The guy who beat Bowie, wasn't that bad, his record is shite, but he had some wins over 12-0 ect fighters, imo they are the guys you should be a bit cautious with, especially when they have demonstrated a strong chin and only been stopped once in 33 fights.

Bowie vs De Mori/Leapai anyone?

other people from OZ can go overseas and fight if they want to but isn't it better to beat the best people here before you go off and represent the country so you don't embarrass the real fighters over here who can fight when i look up tupous record i have never seen opponents with so many red squares in my life .90 percent had no chance to win so is this not supprising what had just happened .

I agree with what you have said, but there is an underlining truth to what others have said before you.

This is what people are getting at, why not fight a Leapai/Demori or even a wilson/Mirovic before going overseas, I don't know if this is true because i don't know Bowie's back ground, but if Johnny Lewis is training you, you don't leave Johnny Lewis, he has contacts in the US to get you the right kind of training.

I give you props David, because you not only preach your ideas, you actually practice them..ie fight the best here.

In a perfect world most fighters would be like the iron rhino in fighting the best in your own backyard, but it doesn't happen, alls you have to do David is to keep doing what your doing with Michael, and soon others will follow.

How many 6-2 heavyweights gets this much time on a board..............None thats how many,it's testimony to the fact that Michael is progressing through his career properly. :TU:
