An article I wrote makes the front page of wikipedia today!
Of the millions of articles on wikipedia one that I wrote has been chosen to be its lead article for today. Millions of people use the website everyday so its some decent exposure for "our Mike".

I hate to rain on your parade, Mike, but a number of Irishmen won Lonsdale Belts prior to Gomez.

Derek Roche was born in the Republic, like Gomez, and won a Lonsdale Belt outright before him.sligobhoy67 wrote:he was the first from the Republicbennie wrote:I hate to rain on your parade, Mike, but a number of Irishmen won Lonsdale Belts prior to Gomez.

not much apart from what has been in the media.banjo wrote:You know anything about the Gomez movie Sligobhoy?
There was a good article about it in the MEN a few months ago and since then its been quiet.
However, I have heard through mates bhurd that things were moving forward because she works for a casting company and she was out looking for locations to film the filum.

From Eamonn O’Hara at the Irish News. "In the history of British boxing exploits only three fighters from this island have earned the distinction, all north of Ireland boxers, the three being Freddie Gilroy, Hugh Russell and Sam Storey."

Nice one Sligo! Question to everyone and anyone: why did the Arthur rematch never happen? I remember seeing ringside interviews with both fighters stating they both wanted it. The first fight was one of the best I've ever seen in a British ring.....

we update on how it went. The article usually gets about 120 to 140 hits a day but the day it was featured it got over 39k hits. Pretty chuffed. Now officially retired from wikipedia.
