Carl Froch's performance

After a first round stopag against Damon hague I was impressed by the way he found his angles. What did everyone else think. He seems to get up for big fights well as it has been the Alan Page fight (for the english title and this one which have impressed me most.

The guy has a grossly exaggerated opinion of himself. A boxer should have confidence however; Froch is just plain conceited. He said tonight that he honestly believes he is the best super-midleweight in the world Calzaghe (who has lost a lot of my respect and not fought anyone of note in a long time) would have Froch out of there within 3 rounds.......quite possibly the first round.

I agree he comes across like a right prick, he's a novice and he's saying he's the best in the world?

I canny wait to see him get his clock cleaned. Saying that it was a good result for him tonight.

Maybe he thinks the fighters he has been fighting are the best in the world, thats the only reason i can find for him thinking he is the best super middle in the world. He is a cocky fella and you cant help taking an instant dislike to him

It was an very strange show, firstly Bunce presenting was a shock, Neilly on posing the question (he wasn't to bad doing that). Then we had some appauling refereeing blunders. I think the mike was a little to close to the time keeper, on the first KD, he was clearly on 8 (which was right) when Vann was on 5. Hague got up on 9 on Vann's count!

Then Paul Thomas counted a KD for Eastman in the last when no contact was made and then failed to score one for Elliot when Eastman definately touched.

Froch does have an over inflated opinion of himself, he needs to take a look at who he is fighting, it may all seem easy now but when he steps up they won't be falling so easily. I cannot believe the way BBC spin things, Froch was not sensational, he put in a good performance against an overmatched foe...Woodhall's comment that Froch would deal with Rudy Markussen "No problem at all" was totally ignorant. The new Beeb setup was fresh but Bunce can't keep still, he bobs back and forward and makes me feel seasick!

What did Froch say again? "Hague came up against the best Super Middle in the world tonight"

I didn't see much wrong with the stoppage, Hague has heart and courage but as Bennie says it was a mismatch, the second round would only of brought more of the same. Hague had life and death struggles with Doran and Pinder, gos on his side or not the bloke was not going to do anything in the fight.

Supermiddle is hardly a loaded division. I think Froch could win a title, he would beat a couple of the champions already imo.

I think some people have an unfair perception of the SM division, while it is certainly not the best division it is certainly not the weakest especially considering the dire Heavyweight division. Danny Green, Anthony Mundine, Mikael Kessler, Danilo Haussler, Christian Sanavia, Markus Beyer, Rudy Markussen, Robin Reid, Jeff Lacy, Brian Magee, Joe Calzaghe, Carl Froch...okay so some are contenders and others are pretenders but come on, can't we make some decent matchups between that lot?!

the most frustrating thing for me, betting wise, is that it ended in the first round. I had a hunch that hague would be grossly overmatched to that extent and really couldn't see him taking froch's shots. I was going to put some serious money on each of the first few rounds. i believe you could get 8/1 on the 1st with blue square. as a gambler, you have to snatch these kind of opportunities.

those froch comments were obviously a desperate attempt to get people talking about boxing before bbc pulled the plug. I couldn't believe it when the show came on and Bunce was there, undulating in front of the camera, no presentation skills whatsoever, calling bobbie vanzie 'bobby viper' it was like a media studies A level student production. Obviously john inverdale has smirked his last on our boxing coverage, f*** off back to the rugby. Garry Richardson was mercifully not there either.

The whole thing had an air of desperation about it, as if being told eastman's opponent had pulled out just threw the powers that be into a blind panic.

Was there some kind of punishment gag going on with the commentary team when it came to mentioning Joe Calzaghe. What is this with Froch comparing himself to Beckham.... I've heard him comparing himself to Calzaghe.

Jim Neilly said... said words to the effect of, Domestically there are some good world class opponents like "Robin Reid, Brian Magee" ... Ummm, where was Joe's name.

Woodhall never mentioned Calzaghe.

I'm distinctly worried that Bunce and Woodhall are now on the Froch/Eastman pay roll, come on Steve, you called Brian Magee a world champion! You shouldn't have said that and what was this about Elliot being a Light Heavyweight! He's campagined mainly at Middle.

As for Froch - I have a mixed opinion of his interview. Seemed greatful for Hague and the crowd (always nice to hear), but his opinion of himself got on my nerves a tad. He called himself the best Super Middleweight in the world? I wonder what a host of Super Middles think of that.

Its okay saying that, but why mention Brian Magee who has far from shown he's world class! They even labelled him a world champion!

I do realise that Froch wasn't in the neutral corner (re the long count) but the referee is supposed to follow the time keepers count. That was the fault with Williams vs Tyson and Darke and co picked up on it. It was a VERY (obviously) wrong count. One of the first times I spotted it when it was first shown without the commentators noting it also.

NO HE DIDN'T, he said "Elliot knocked down Brian Magee, a world champion". I wouldn't have had a problem if he would have mentioned the company, but Magee was no world champion.

And also believes you need to make 4 defences to win the lonsdale belt outright. It wasn't a slip up because he said "You used to have to make 3 defences".

I had to laugh when Eastman hit Elliott with a flurry and Elliott caught Howard slightly low then offered his glove as an apology...Neilly said "Even Elliott waved his hand in appreciation of Eastman's punching" or something like that

I have to say I thought the first knockdown looked a tad dodgy frankly. Froch’s punch looked like it just glanced off Hague, but Hague got up like he’d been run over by a steam train. Looked strange to me anyway.
