Tyson Fury primed for Big Bad John

Frank Maloney's website http://www.frankmaloney.com/News/press_ ... /2186.html reports that the English heavyweight clash between John McDermott and Tyson Fury will now go ahead at Brentwood Centre on September 11th. The show had initially been headed for Crystal Palace.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say Fury stops him mid-rounds. I don't think it's going the distance, one way or another.

For all John's experience, the physical tools are in Tyson's favour....and if someone drums into him how to win it, and he follows the plan, it could be easy. I've forgotten who trains him....

Cant wait to see how Fury deals with a decent fighter I think he will lose by KO in the latter rounds McDermott has been the distance on numerous occasionans while Fury has never been past 6 I think expierence will pay a big part

He also folded liek a harpsichord when facing skelton. Not many heavies throw work to the body like Fury, I personally think this could be Big John's downfall. Felled bya fury body shot.

We'll see... Intriguing though.

Yes Fury has impressed with his body shots, i've not seen many tall heavies can do that.
But he's not had much coming back at him so far when he throws them, thats what i want to find out about Fury.

Me too, but i dont see dunking John Mc donought, or whatever fury was calling him, doing that. Fury will keep that left arm extended, pawing, a bit like klitchko does. John will need to move inside quickly, close the gap, throw and avoid uppercuts on the way in. See, I used the word "quickly", therewith lies the problem.

Also, everyone talks of Furys stamina, nobody mentions Big johns. It aint great, and going 12 with a shot to pieces Danny Williams (who was never a lance armstrong when 100% fit) doesnt change my mind either.

Im on the Tyson bandwagon for this one... so expect him sparked out in 2 or 3, knowing my luck.

I'm not convinced on either guy, i thought Fury looked well out of shape when i saw him last box, he did say his preperation had been hampered by a back injury and lack of sparring, but i'm not so sure some problems with avoiding the sweet rack as well might be in there as well.
If he thinks he can go in against Big John with that kind of conditioning then Fury will be making a mistake.

I'm pretty sure he won't though, he must know that he can't underestimate McDermott. Or is he believing his own hype?

I know what your saying about John and he still hasn't won over his critics after the Skelton blowout, but in the fights since he's beaten Gammer and Reid and pushed Williams , in those he was a slight under dog. But showed good improvement in stamina and punch variety.

I'd say its a 60/40 fight in Mcdermotts favour

Tyson Fury primed for Big Bad John

Undefeated heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury says he’s counting down the days to his first title fight – an English title showdown with “Big Bad” John McDermott on September 11th.

The 6 foot 9 inch heavyweight sensation is undefeated in 7 pro fights with all 7 wins coming via knockout and he’s determined to maintain that perfect KO streak against McDermott.

A back injury had hampered Fury’s preparations ahead of his most recent outing in London last month but the 21-year-old says he’s fighting fit ahead of his date with McDermott. “My backs 100% again now and I’ve been working very hard in the gym. I’m really fired up for this, it’s my first title fight and I want to win it in style.”

Fury will challenge for McDermott’s belt after promoter Frank Maloney submitted the winning purse bid to stage the fight. The bid is believed to be a record for an English title fight demonstrating just how big an impact Fury has made in British boxing since turning pro last December.

The Hennessy Sports promoted Fury says he has no problems fighting in his opponent’s back yard on a rival promoter’s event. “It will make a nice change for Frank Maloney to finally have a decent heavyweight on one of his shows. I’ve watched some of the big lumps he’s had on his shows recently and its like watching Dumbo on Ice, they can barely stand upright, let alone throw punches.

“To be fair to John McDermott he’s the best of a bad lot with Maloney’s heavyweights and thankfully for him he can fight a lot better than he looks.”

Maloney recently criticised Fury saying that he had a big mouth but Fury says he’s ready, willing and able to back up his big talk. “That’s the difference between me and a lot of these other guys. I might talk the talk but I walk the walk as well and I’ll prove that against McDermott.

“Maloney obviously believes that McDermott can beat me but I think that just proves what I said before, what Maloney knows about heavyweights could be tattooed on the back of my big toe.”

The latest venue mooted for the bout is the Brentwood Centre in Essex but Fury says he’s not fussed where the fight takes place. “They keep changing the venue, first it was the York Hall, then it was Crystal Palace and now I’ve been told it’s moved again to Brentwood but they can put it on in McDermott’s back garden as far as I’m concerned, the result will be the same anyway. I’m going to be coming home with that English title belt.”
