Yes he sure was almost out himself. Who won the fight though?Goodnight, Irene wrote:His win against Ellis is the luckiest victory I've ever seen in my life. He was almost out himself.
Yep, Norton was on the down slide. However, if you really think it would have made any difference at all had Norton been in his prime then you’re not thinking very clearly on this topic. You don’t think there’s a wee bit of a style matchup problem for Norton? Come on, be honest.Goodnight, Irene wrote: Please. Norton was washed-up
Yeah he sure did for many of his fights, much like Foreman. See next topic.Goodnight, Irene wrote:This guy had limited conditioning,
Really? Name one time where was dropped by a single shot when he was anywhere near his prime? Quarry hit him about 50 times before he dropped, and Lyle was outfought before Shavers ran out of gas and got stopped. He was well past it against Sims, who was an extremely hard hitter himself. Care to mention any other fights?Goodnight, Irene wrote: a wonky chin,
I guess you didn’t see the Lyle fight?Goodnight, Irene wrote:He had a right hand. He had very little else.
You can take just about any fighter and do pretty much the same thing that you did with Shavers. Yes Shavers was not a great fighter, but unlike you I actually give points for results, and for all of your pontificating, you can’t take away the impressive string of wins.
Anyone who says that Shavers couldn’t have won a title in any era either doesn’t understand the sport, or just isn’t thinking clearly.

It's been said a few times but I will add my two cents....Jerry Quarry.
If he were fighting today he would be the cruiserweight champion.

I think Ruben Castillo and Andy Price deserve at least a shout out.

Speaking of Norton..he didn't win the title. So does he qualify here? ![[icon_neutral.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_neutral.gif)

But he did "have" the title as I recall. Win is an interesting word here. If it was given to him that's still a "win" right? And in boxing that may be the biggest win of all. No bumps or bruises but your the champ? I'd call that a win.
But he never fought a winning championship fight right?
