Good to see him back at more natural Weight
hopefully see him in some decent mix with the lightweight top boys.

Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight
Damian Owen is also a light welter, i'd be very suprised if either came in anywhere near the lightweight limit.
Also the Calzaghe's are really struggling, they have no tv and sticking the likes of Rees and Pryce on is very expensive, they are too expensive for small hall shows.
I dunno if this 'new' consortium are happy to throw money away like they do in Newcastle football, but unless they do the show will make a loss.
I know last time the money being offered to opponents was laughable and not enough for anyone to take the fights

I was just about to post this too. How does everyone rate his chances down at lightweight? He seems to want to get in the domestic mix with Murray & Thaxton which I think is a good thing for British boxing.

TBH Damien Owen is no pushover and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if Owen beats Rees.

Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight
There are a lot of good matches to be made at Lightweight in British scene
the problem is they all seem to just do there own thing and fight Foreigners / Journeyman
John Murray
Alex Arthur
Gavin Rees
Willie Limond
Lee Mccallister
John Thaxton
ANy of the above in a match with each other would be good viewing i think

Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight
You're right I think when Calzaghe went into promoting he thought it would be easy bringing across basically everyone who trained in Newbridge and was contracted to Warren. It obviously didn't pan out that way with Cleverly jumping ship straight away, Enzo leaving the gym to stay with Warren, Rees and Pryce both getting beaten, even Kerry Hope has left now.Coco wrote:Damian Owen is also a light welter, i'd be very suprised if either came in anywhere near the lightweight limit.

I hope Rees does well in his comeback, met him out in Vegas and he seemed a genuinely nice bloke
Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight
Good luck to him.
Lightweight would be his more suited weight, given his height and reach.

Murray vs Rees would be a very good fight would like to see him fight Lawton 1st to see how he does at LW before going straight in for a title
Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight
Not even Euro fighters? That said, with them bringing at least one cornerman just the flights and hotel costs must be £100s now.Coco wrote: I know last time the money being offered to opponents was laughable and not enough for anyone to take the fights

Shame that, because as a poster above had pointed out Owen is no pushover and could of very well beaten Rees.nicnut wrote:D owen is not boxing rees, bad hand before last fight even worse now.

Re: Gavin Rees back at Lightweight

The bodysnatcher hey? Should be a little cracker to watch, Rees will do well to stop Reid.

I fancy Rees to win inside the distance against Reid, despite Reid being a career light welter, I wonder what weight the match is made at
