Holden joins Gallagher
http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/BN08/detail.asp?id=1224
FORMER British heavyweight champion Michael Holden, 41, has hooked up with Joe Gallagher and Kerry Kayes in order to kick-start his proposed comeback; he is scheduled to fight in October, his opponent will be decided nearer the time.
Holden's British title reign was unique. Firstly, the BBBofC had expressed concern over his eligibility to fight then-holder Julius Francis in 2001, as Mike had four losses on his record, with three of them coming in his previous eight fights. However, the board decided to let Mike take on Francis and he scored an upset over his experienced foe, posting a gruelling points win.
Secondly, Holden never defended his title; he was scheduled to defend versus Danny Williams, only to vacate the title due to persistent injuries. Mike did eventually fight for the title a second time, a rematch with Julius Francis in 2001; this time, though, Holden lost on points.
Patchy form led to Holden's retirement in 2003. He is now working with Gallagher in a bid to kick-start his career. Holden is the rarest of beasts, a title winning Mancunian heavyweight. Mike is aiming to give boxing one last go. His 10-9 (6) record is deceptive; still, Holden represents a massive challenge for Gallagher, who told me that he is relishing this latest task.

Re: Holden joins Gallagher
nice guy michael holden, spoke to him lots when he was julius francis chief sparring partner for the mike tyson fight, good sense of humour too.
Re: Holden joins Gallagher
i agree mike is a good guy but why on earth is he coming back?He did extremely well to win a british title and is still effectively an undefeated british champ!
to come back at 41 is a serious health risk especially as he is a face first fighter, hes very fit and game, but what realistically does he hope to achieve?

Certainly wasn't back in 2003 - Mike worked doing various things - for example driving cars on the set of Coronation Street amongst other things.

A good Ashton lad Holden, he used to come in the Co-Op I worked in when I was 16 and get a box of tuna a week or something like that. Big lad, lol, and a nice guy he used to bring his videos in for us to watch.
