WBO 168 Champion Joe Calzaghe told Fightnews.com that this week's challenge by rising unbeaten UK prospect Carl "The Cobra" Froch was not on his agenda. He stated, "Froch is a good domestic level fighter and unbeaten in the UK and European circuit. However he does not motivate me to fight him when I am targeting people such as Antonio Tarver

can't see him getting a look in on Tarver, after Johnson knocked out RJJ on Saturday, Tarver asked for a fight with Johnson.

Johnson would want this one as he will earn more money from it than against Calzaghe.

Why can't Calzaghe box on the undercard, put in a decent display and get the winner of Tarver v Johnson. Or is that to simple.

I'm just fed up of getting promised all these fights and nothing turning up,
I'm sure Calzaghe isn't afraid to box anyone in the Super middle/ light Heavy divisions, i rate him up there with any of the champs, think he would give Tarver a real beating.

I feel your pain topper! Im sick of this, i hadn't even heard of this pyramid boy. Calzaghe needs to relinquish that WBO title and fight some ranked light heavies and force a mandatory while he still can, thats the only way these big fights are gonna happen

To play devil's advocate, Salem dropped an SD in Germany to a German and, although I haven't seen it, it does sound like a potentially dodgy decision. Point deductions flying all over the place (although Salem did break the ref's nose...)

That said, the basic sound advice of fighting on a Johnson - Tarver undercard to force the winner into a match seems to me to be lesson 1 in the school of boxing promotion / management. Just such a shame that it like as not won't happen.

I don't think that Salem is that bad a choice, Calzaghe has been inactive and Salem looks as if he has a good chin , Calzaghe needs to get some rounds under his belt.

That said he should be fighting the top names, maybe it will all come good in 2005 for Calzaghe, Hatton and the rest.

How many fights does Calzaghe have left with Warren before he could sign for another promoter?.

You would hope that with all his cash then maybe ambition might set in next year.

Im sure i read recently that Joe stated 2005 would be his big year and its not as if he's made statements like this before

Honestly though, Calzaghe in a major fight against top name is what the neutral fans have wanted for years because we know he has the goods to fight at that level, just a shame it probably wont happen.

Joe Calzaghe is still intent on hi-jacking the world light-heavyweight scene after signing a new contract with promoter allegedly.

Calzaghe, the WBO super-middleweight champion, is desperate for a fight with WBC champion Antonio Tarver, and is also keen for a clash with IBF king Glencoffe Johnson.

Johnson sensationally beat Roy Jones Junior at the weekend.

“I’m currently in talks with Tarver’s camp, and I’ll also be making an offer to team Johnson,” said Warren.

“I’m not at all surprised he beat Jones, as I’ve not been impressed with him at all in his last few fights.

“In the meantime I’m delighted to announce that Joe has followed in the footsteps of Danny Williams and signed a new deal with me.

“I believe he is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, and will go on to prove that in the next 12 months

Joe Clazaghe is one half of the biggest joke in British boxing.
