Ronnie Heffron goes pro, any info?

Post by Old bones Ian »

Just seen this lad Ronnie Heffron is going pro, being touted as the new 'Ricky Hatton'.

Anyone know much info on him?
He's signed with F Warren, so i'd expect him to be on the shows with the Olympians.

I remember nicky cook being dubbed 'ricky hatton of the south' .

Not go any info on him mate, should have some good solid pro's in the UK in the next 5 years, although we're going througha slight lull which could get worse befre it gets better.

Cheers mate, should be a tidy prospect.
I'm not sure, but i think he may be with Anthony Farrnells gym, maybe he can confirm.

What sort of style has he got?

He has an exciting, agressive 'pro' style Ian (although he isnt an unskilled front foot brawler, more an aggresive box-fighter I suppose).

Son of an ex-pro Tommy, his younger brother is also coming through the England youth system at the moment.

Certainly one to watch out for - he already has a good sized following as I understand it. :TU:

The new BABA are laying a new marker down on this one. They want the lad to pay back £16k they said they've invested in him with an eye on the Olympics. He's apparently offered them 2k.

W.arren is saying it's outrageous, etc...but what does he say when one of the guys he's invested time and money into does one?

Derek Mapp, head of the BABA has basically said the tax payer has funded the lad and if he's going to feck off, we should have our money back.

Professional promoters (not just W.arren) are given prospects who have been developed by people usually giving their time for free, or for very little. Countless, unpaid hours in kids' development. What exactly do professional promoters put into the amateur game?

What happened to the suggestion from W.arren that he was going to do shows with the ams, made whilst he was trying to get Khan to turn over? Once Khan went pro, I never heard anything about it again.

IMO there is still a lot of antagonism between the pro's and am's
The am's won't let promoters near their boys for fear of them being nicked. Furthermore the am officials in England are on a real gravy train due to lottery funding and don't like to have their toes trodden on as many of them will be shown up for the pen pushers they really are.
The likes of Ritchie Woodhall got squeezed out because he was too good for his own good and embarassed some of these highly paid coaches.
As for Heffron, unless he has signed a watertight contract with the ABA, I would just tell them where to stuff it. Makes me laugh FW saying how outrageous it is with his track record

You'd think Warren would get the 16k from down the back of his Sofa and pay it.

Ronnie, an England international whose father and brother Tommy also boxed, won four national schoolboy titles, two junior ABA titles, 5x gold medals in Four Nations tournaments and earlier this year stopped Earlsfield's Bradley Skeete in the 2nd round at Sheffield to win the ABA 64kg title.
An amateur with Boarshaw he was ranked No. 2 in England behind Bradley Saunders.
Apart from that, nothing. :)
