the same 'barn who about once per day for a while was saying how much it annoyed him that honest un-flashy pressure fighters like Murray get downgraded on boxrec in favour of flashy fighters with 'check hooks', all style over substance, he would say.

but williams has an ugly and ungainly style, not attractive.

watch the super 6 instead though, eh, 'barn, so you can watch the incredibly slick and aesthetically pleasing Carl froch

so you think you've unearthed a Boxrec double standard.

What does that get you, a free BoxRec T shirt, a KFC voucher and 10% off selected books at Waterstone's?

Murray isn't an ugly stylist. He throws clean shots, always gets his feet in position before punching. This was a completely different debate, pressure v flash.

Williams is an ugly stylist. He throws lots of pitty pat arm punches and often punches from out of position. He slaps and flaps and ppl rate him more on potential than what he has actually done. He's more like Celestino Caballero - a fighter I really rate - but let's see Williams, say, smash the shit out of good fighters in their backyard, or unify some belts, or do something special. Before hailing him as a "pound for pounder" and "boxing's most underappreciated." Last week there was a thread - "Paul Williams - As Good As It Gets?" - I don't think the thread starter was kidding.

Ring mag actually raved about him, after he KO'd that German guy up at middleweight. Didn't that make Williams "the scourge of 3 weight classes"? Paul Freaking Williams has never successfully defended a world title. That's how stupendous he is.

Paul Williams will fight anyone because he lacks star quality and wants money. Ideally, Williams would have a light middle belt, and someone like Cotto would move up, and they would fight. And we'd find out who is the dog's bollocks, or perhaps that both of them are just OK.

relax barn. just doing a bit of gentle ribbing. so williams is an ugly stylist. doesn't stop you following Froch now does it?

if you can't see the paradox of saying williams is ugly and ungainly- and being one of the forum's biggest froch-boosters (the slick, smooth, Picasso in a boxing ring that is Froch)- i hope i can at least help you gain some limited self-understanding. i presume that next time Frooch throws one of thosee ogdawful lunging uppercuts, you will rightly be railing against him on the grounds of his stylistic ugliness and 'punching out of position' :TU:

then, further, if you can't see the paradox of your own ranting against the supposed boxrec tendency of style over substance, then downgrading williams on stylistic grounds- again, I can only say, I am glad to be of assistance in your ongoing socratic quest for self-knowledge.

williams has never thrown the check hook. i think this is all that needs to be said.

maybe he can have Shaun George's.

I don't watch froch for style. I watch him to see a world class hard bastard in action - no bullsht, taking no prisoners approach a refrehing change in this country at super middle. It's mayhem in there, like a barroom brawl in a John Wayne film. Froch used to throw a nice counter uppercut. Not so good when he leads with it.

Well, that could happen. But how is he going to contend with 100 punches a round coming at him from all angles. I think we'll see him loading up more and trying to take Williams head off. This has the makings of an absolute war. I think Williams has the power to hurt Pavlik, but Pavlik may also have the power to hurt Williams. They will be fighting in the trenches. I haven't seen Williams wobbled but I've seen Pavlik hurt a few times. Pavlik doesn't have the boxing ability to make this an easy fight for himself. He doesn't have the footwork or defense to get out of the way of Williams punches, so he's going to have to get Williams respect.

I think Williams will show his power in this fight and stop Pavlik (probably a corner stoppage as Pavlik can take a hiding. I just don't see Pavlik being able to deal with him. I mean, have a look at the highlights of Williams vs Wright here...

Pavlik vs Williams Agreement Reached: War on Oct 3

By Rick Reeno

BS.com has been informed by sources close to the negotiations that a deal has been reached for a middleweight war on October 3 at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik will defend his titles against Paul "The Punisher" Williams.

After weeks of tough back and forth negotiations, BS was informed that a deal was reached on Tuesday afternoon. HBO, who played a role in the agreement by bringing a $3.75 million dollar fee to the table, will televise the fight. The two sides tried to make a deal last year and it fell apart but this time both sides worked very hard to make sure the deal got sealed.

I don't, fully expect to see Williams an odds on favourite, the value will be in backing him to win by stoppage.
