Completely OT: Mobile phones

Post by dondada »

It's that time again...I need to get a new phone.

A combination of lack of knowledge, apathy and frustration has led me to posting on here. There's a million sites to look at - even a recommendation of a decent, independent review site would be good.

Any recommendations for a phone though? All I need to do is phone, text and use the net, really. But above all is the necessity for a very good camera.

I was thinking of this new fangled Samsung Pixon 12.

Any views?

If oyu have and like your current phone go with O2 on a month to month contract.

£20 gets you 1000 mins, 1000 texts and unlimited internet. Its a month to month contract so you can cancel a month in advance at any point. Only snag is no free phone with the contract.

I've got an LG Viewty which is OK but it's started messing me about and needs to know who's boss mate. New phone a must. Not too bothered about the price as I go halves with work.

I use this site when initially reading up on mobile phones: http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/

When you've found a phone you think you like search for reviews on it (just googling the name + ' review' is usually enough).

It doesn't look like the Samsung Pixon 12 has been reviewed yet: http://www.mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/samsung-pixon-12.htm

My missus has that phone, and it's gone tits up after about a year, keeps locking up all the time.

Here's what you need Ian...including review, it's the best camera phone out there.

The pixon actually has very good reviews Ian looking at it.

The Nokia N96 (or is it 97?) is also a very good general purpose phone.

I have Sony Xperia, great phone, but the camera is turd.

HTC are good, but their cameras are shit. They made the Xperia for Sony.

As a smartphone maker, HTC are pretty much unrivalled.

The Orange Dolphin 20 is a good package also..... similar to the O2 one - less minutes, but unlimited texts to the UK. Especially if they mess up with your first bill... and then make it 15 quid a month with the same deal!

No doubt you have or will very soon, hear of the new IPhone that will be out soon! Its a fcuking con, the cheapest version being around £150 for the smallest capacity & that's for just the phone! The cheapest contract, I read, will probably be a monthly one of around £70!

I like listening to music, but I do not like listening to music that much!

Having had voda, orange and 02 for work phones in the last 3 years, i can vouch for 02 having the most solid signal etc.

Voda are decent, orange have gone right down the pan though - it cuts out all the time even with full signal.
