Yes, it's official, we finally went to press today, and the magazine is available in WHSmiths, John Menzies, Borders and thousands of independent newsagents.

Just messing, Ive seen the prototype the fellas for the previous issue, some great stuff in there is the present copies are as good, let alone improved I can well recommend it.

I hope so, it would be great if we can get our amateurs some glossy exposure, but it would need someone to go to all the shows etc.

Our magazine is a feature-based affair, at present we are not giving over a huge amount of the magazine to results, as the trend of the magazine is different to the boxing news and boxing monthly formats. It's a glossy feature magazine, rather than a news and results service, which is something boxing news already have covered from a-z.

There will be amateur reports, and interviews with amateurs, for instance there's a section on Amir khan, but we will generally give space to what we feel warrants the attention rather than covering something for the sake of covering it. Thus in this issue, there isn't a comprehensive amateur section. However, were the world championships or the olympics in progress, then we would probably have given over some of the magazine to that.

Anyway, best way to find out what the mag is like is to buy a copy.

that is the difficulty to be honest. Amateur boxing is very low profile, even the boxing writers don't attend the shows, I'm a boxing writer and I haven't a clue about when or where the next amateur show is.

Amateur boxing has a very narrow appeal, how many people in the country have any knowledge of amateur boxing, it's virtually invisisble.

It takes something like Khan to remind people it even exists, or some other comprarably big event or achievement.

Wasnt my cup of tea at all to be honest although I did enjoy the article on Dean Phillips training...

I will buy this months issue and take a look at that though...

Thanks, that's one of mine.

It's not going to appeal to maybe some of the real harcore fans who just want a meat and potatoes magazine with results.

Over time however, I am sure the magazine will evolve, it's very early days as yet, and time will tell how the magazine shapes up. Have a look at this months and see what you think.

Yeah, we lucked out a bit there as Danny;s camp announced the Vitali shot just after the interview.

I will definately give it a chance James, As you said its early days but there is definately some good fresh ideas and I would recommend that everyone at least buys it for a good few months to give it a chance to develop....

The idea of doing something different is the very thing that could make the magazine a success as im sure you all know..

I will pick it up tomorrow and let you know what I think!

Lets hope it is better than the dummy copy I saw in June, 'kin awful. quality glossy paper with copy you wouldn't wipe your arse on.

WHATS THAT SENTENCE IN ENGLISH CHRIS?

I disagree ok the layout could do with working on a little but the quality of the writing and subjects was excellent.

I f*ckin loved the duran peice by Ian thought it was top notch.

James was his usual verbose but well educated self and even Stevie Holdsworth whinged coherently which is more than he does when commentating.

Yes, I think you are right, I have a few ideas with interviews with particular fighters who I feel have interesting strories. It's the stories which interest me, and hopefully will interest other people that I want to write about, rather than simply interviewing the same old faces. Of course you need some of the mainstream stuff for more casual fans who want to know about Hatton, Williams, Harrison, Calzaghe, as that has a broad appeal, they are the most visible mushes out there.

We won't get anywhere by apeing existing publications, so we're striking out on our own tangent. It's risky, but hey, where's the fun in doing something that other people already do, and do well?

There's definitely room for more boxing publications and by the sound of it this one might fill a gap, I've stopped reading Boxing Monthly as often its like reading a month old boxing news plus Leach is a tw@t. And with all the cancellations going on a lot of the big fights they preview havent been happening anyway!!

I think that's a sensible decision. A boxing lifestyle mag might irk the hardcore fan a bit, but you can either market to the maybe 50,000 fanatics, or the millions of sportsfans, lads, ladettes, health and work-out junkies etc.

You might get the odd bad review from long-term fans who resent seeing some bint with hardly any clothes on, or Joe C modeling this seasons hottest hats, or whatever in a boxing mag but don't worry: when you're sitting on a yacht, lighting your cigars with £50 notes off the mag sales, you can pay to have them killed.

Good luck with it mate. I'll pick it up and have a look tomorrow. Or at least stand in WH Smiths and read it to see if it's any good.
