Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, home of “Smokin” Joe Frazier and “Terrible” Tim Witherspoon, will soon have a new heavyweight champion, Joey “Polish Thunder” Dawejko. After having a much heralded amateur career, Dawejko has elected to turn professional by signing an exclusive managerial contract with the new management team of Hasim Rahman and Steve Nelson..
Although only nineteen years old , Dawejko has had many accomplishments in the amateur ranks. These include being the youngest gold medalist (16 years old) in the US Olympic Eastern Trials, being the 2007 National PAL Champion, being the 2008, under nineteen, US National Champion, and being the 2008, under nineteen, World Champion.
By signing with the new management team of Rahman and Nelson, Dawejko has the both of best worlds, one manager who understands how to become heavyweight champion by being one and the other who guided him there.
Rahman, who may be the first boxing manager to actually box with his client, has stated that “having sparred with Joey on several occasions, I know he has the tools to become not only heavyweight champion, but a fighter who can bring back excitement to the heavyweight division”.
Nelson believes that “not only will Philadelphia and America fall in love with Joey, but all of Polish descent will be cheering on the first and only Polish heavyweight champion of the world”.
Dawejko is thrilled by turning professional with his new management team and looks forward to his professional debut. Training with long-time trainer Brian McGinley, Dawejko says “look out world, here I come”. Boxing fans throughout the world will soon be able to see the future of heavyweight boxing, “Polish Thunder” tearing apart the heavyweight division.

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
IMO Joey should have not turn pro, he was ranked 1 in the under 19 youth why did't he box senior open? my opinion is that Rahman wanted to pave the way for his son 'you' to win some national tournament, so its a win win deal for rahamn jr and his dad, joey out rahman's in.
and as for pro i think joey is too small for heavy weight, lite heavy weight or cruser JUST MY OPINION THATS ALL.

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
Joey was boxing superheavy and Hasim Jr. was boxing heavy so there was no "clearing the path" for little rock. Big Rock knew Joey for awhile and most likely believes in him.
Good luck Joey!!!
Thanks for the info Hasim.

I've been trying to find that place forever! What part of Philly is that in?
Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
It's in the Kensington section of Philly.Kolya wrote:ICEMAN JOHN SCULLY wrote:I actually just met Joey for the first time a few weeks ago in Philly...he took us to see the apartment that Rocky Balboa lived at in the first ROCKY movie...

Kensington, ok. I don't suppose you know what street?
Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
I haven't lived in Philly in 23 years. My father is from Kensington and lived on the next block over from the street where Rocky lived in the movie. I can't remember the street and my father is no longer living. I know it is near the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny, K & A for short and is off of Allegheny. Maybe Joey or one of the guys who still live in Philly would know.Kolya wrote:JMac wrote:It's in the Kensington section of Philly.Kolya wrote:

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
Boxrec has Joey listed as having his pro debut tomorrow. Except his name is misspelled. There are also two offspring of famous boxers competing on the card, George Foreman III and Wilford Scypion, Jr. Good luck Joey!

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
Joey's debut (assuming the info is accurate) is against a 4-9 boxer in a 6 rounder. Teddy Atlas would like it as he always complains about top amateurs taking "bums" for too long. Joey is jumping right in and I expect he will win easily.

1. Rocky's apartment is at 1818 Tusculum St. Like Joey said, it's one block away from Kensington and Lehigh.
2. Congrats on the win. And good luck for a lot of success in the future.
3. It's great that Joey got his first win, but to the poster a few in front of me, how can you say that a guy who is 4-9 and has been knocked out 4 times is a tough opponent? Sure, he wasn't 0-30 like some guys face in their first fights, but hardly seems like a tough fight.

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
I see. So, based on what you saw, you think it was a good opponent? Or do you think Joey underperformed?
Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
It was an opponent that came to win and fight, but Joey clearly had better skills and he outclassed him the first 3 rounds. I guess going 6 rounds for a debut got to Joey because he seemed fatigued in the last 3 while the opponent was still there trying to win and started landing more shots.

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
The Scypion fight was fight of the night, and
Royphy Solieau was fighter of the night. (KO of night to Mason Menard)
Joey had great hand speed and power but was conditioned for 3x3min rounds.
He won the first three including the knockdown and Solieau won the last three.
Solieau had been off for awhile and must have found a new trainer/motivation. He applied pressure from fight start to finish.
The crowd was vocal and 100% in support of Solieau.
-6 rounds in debut
-13 fights experience for opponent
-arena 20 miles from opponent's hometown
-opponent works at casino where event held
His management has some kind of belief in him to debut like that.

Re: Joey "Polish Thunder" Dawejko
Hopefully, Joey learned from it and is ready to go 6 hard rounds the next time without getting tired. They don't need to rush him too quickly as he is a young guy. I think he is 19.
