Hommage to the Journymen

Although it is often interesting to talk about the top fighters I think it is worth looking at some of the fighters who make our sport what it is. Those who fight the young up and commings and save the bill at the last moment. So who is everyones favorat British Journyman?

In my oppinion one of the breavest is Peter Buckly who's defetes looks a bit like a who's who of the lighter devisions.

Paul Bonson and Ojay Abrams both deserve a mention.

Froch had early fights with the two of them you know. I remember being impressed with the Bronson fight because it showed his stamina wasn't a problem.

Speaking of former froch opponents Valery Odin seems to be carving that form of a career for himself.

i like Ojay, you can actually see him holding back in some fights as he knows its not in his best interest to win.....
Unlike Bonson and Buckley, Ojay has a huge punch and has to be careful he doesnt bang out the "prospect" and upset his wage payers!!!!

Tony Booth is another staple for the up and commings however I remember thinking Haye was breave to take him on in his first fight because he is often a bit better than cannon fodder.

Val is as strong as an ox, he is a hard man to beat and if he ever fought in his right weight division with more than 3-4 days notice many of the losses wouldnt be there!!!

The same is true of Ovill McKenzie..... I mean look at the guys record, he fought Denis Inkin (18-0) and lost a controversial decision. Then he fights at cruiserweight against Tommy Eastwood and again loses a controversial decision..... these guys are talented but dont get the luck!!!!!

Trouble is, once you've lost a few these days, nobody is interested in you any more. Didn't Ovil beat Steve Spartacus a while back?

yes he did!!!!!
the guy is the most impressive physical specimen I have ever seen....

never lifted weights in his life but built like a brick shit house and not an ounce of fat on him

Also often if people aren't from the richer countrys then they don't get the same promotional interests behind them. Hence Adamu having to fight 2 times in a fortnight.

In the froch case I believe they regularly spart together though so the short notice would have ment less.

I believe that Bonson has only ever been stopped once and that was on a cut. These guys are always incredibly durable, people like Buckley along with Nigel Senior and Peter Dunn. And of course the king of all journeymen...Nigel Rafferty

Ovill has sparred with Froch, who he says hits very hard.... but who was wearing 10oz gloveds in sparring apparently.... disgraceful if true

He is a very strong guy, he looks like he could be very useful if moved right, reminds me a bit of Peter oboh.

I've always wondered if the likes of Abrahams & Buckley could win a title if they were given decent notice and went into camp. both are good enough IMO.

Out of interest how much would the avarege journyman get paid for a fight. Dose it veary with weight, i.e. dose Luke Simpkin get more than peter Buckly on the same bill.
