Bob Foxworth
What happened to this light heavyweight contender who stopped boxing after 4 straight victories in September 1, 1948?
Bob Foxworth
Hej Krister! I'm still alive out here in San Diego.
As you probably know, Bob Foxworth was a very slick boxer-puncher from East St. Louis, Illinois, who made his pro debut in 1946 shortly after winning the Chicagoland light heavyweight Golden Gloves Championship. Although I was only about twelve years old at the time I remember vividly my dad always referring to him as a great prospect and possible heavyweight champion.
I do not have the 1949 or 1950 RRB's and there is no listing of him in the 1951 edition
Unfortunately I have no idea what happened to him or why he quit boxing, but he beat some pretty good people including Bob Satterfield, Dolph Quijano and Leonard Morrow. But then that early loss to Joey Maxim might have had some effect.

Hi Simonpure!
You've been on my mind lately.
I'm currently checking my TR's of the late 40's and will sooner or later find out what happened to Foxworth.
RRB 1950 has "Temorarily inactive" for his 1949 record.
Meantime, I'm compleating any Chicago card I can find reported.
Please call my email, I need to update your address.

i saw bob foxworth, who was the favorite, get cold cocked by oakland billy smith in cincinnati in 1948. he was a superb looking boxer..handsome and stylish and seemed to have a lot of skill...but billy was a great puncher and a very good fighter when motivated.
as foxworth's record ends with wins, i've always been curious too as to what happened to him and am looking foreward to any updated information.

Hej Palais!!
Somewhere in the back of my mind I seem to remember that Bob Foxworth left boxing to join the Illinois State Highway Patrol. Maybe that will give you a lead.
Besides Bob Foxworth, East St. Louis, Illinois, also contributed an army of wonderful trumpet players including Clark Terry and Miles Davis. And I believe the great Fats Navarro also did some woodshedding around the area.
