In my opinion, Calzaghe was the best fighter Wales ever produced, he was world class and proberly could have beaten most of the worlds best fights out there, however, I think he had a very good business head on his shoulders and avoided the ones he proberly thought he could not beat.

Sure he beat lots of great opponents, but most were over the hill, but good solid pro's. In their prime I think the outcomes of some of his fights may have been very different, but we will never know how good joe really was, he was never really tested in terms of coming back into a fight from the brink of defeat.

personality wise, he did not have any, we will always remember Frank bruno, Herol Graham, Nigel Benn before Joe Calzaghe.

At the end of the day he was in the business of making money out of hitting someone and he did it very well indeed. But was he a legend of the ring, I do not think so!

the only reason calzaghe retired is because theres noone in the super middle weight worth fighting. why risk some bum getting a lucky knock out. Kesslers the best out there and calzghes beaten him.

Its a shame there werent or arent two massive money spining respected american champions out there to fight, then im sure he would have put this matter beyond dispute.

personally i would put my money on calzaghe to win at super middle over roy jones jr or any other fighter theres been.

I personally think colins or eubank possibly even benn or watson would have beaten rjj.

As refreshing as it is to read a post that isn't oozing with contempt for Joe Calzaghe, I do think your appraisal of the British 'fab four' is a touch overzealous. Eubank and Collins might have gone the distance and Benn was always in with a proverbial punchers chance but realistically, I doubt he or Watson could have avoided being knocked out by RJJ.
