Did my man Junior sleep with his daughter or something? He still doesn't have him at #1 for US seniors at 132!

At 201, Rakhim Chakhiyev from Russia signed a pro contract with Universum last week so he shouldn't be in the rankings.

Pardon my ignorance but who is Mr. Smith and what is the methodology for calculating the rankings? Are their weights for Gold, Silver, Bronze, Quarterfinal position and so on for various events such as AIBA World Championship etc.? It would really help if there was some transparency in these rankings.

By the way, I was myself trying to figure out the best amateur boxers in the world and in the absence of formal AIBA rankings, I was really stuck till I found this. Amazing work by Michael Smith! I bow to thee

Kindly move Akhil Kumar to 57 kgs/125 lbs - Featherweight category as he is going to be participating in this category instead of 54 kg. Also, Jitender Kumar will be representing India in the 54kgs/119 lbs - Bantamweight category from now on. He was a Quarter finalist at Beijing, lost to three-time European champion Georgy Balakshin (11-15). I find it quite weird that he can't even find a place in world top 15.

Jitender's earlier category 51kgs/112 lbs will be taken up by Suranjoy Singh, the Asian champion in this category.

Michael Smith is based in the UK and his rankings are done completely by him. He checks several sources-collecting all the results of the top amateurs throughout the world. His analysis is pretty thorough and although they are not "official" results from USAB or AIBA, his rankings have been used and referenced in the amateur boxing arena many times since he started them. The rankings are very reliable in that he has taken the time to systematically weigh worldwide result. You must also consider that no other source has even attempted to do what he's done with his rankings. When I post the results for him, he welcomes feedback and updates for the next release. I hope that helps.
