He was licking Limon but ran out of steam, in the days of 15-rounders. It was a fight he could and should have won.

But I told you guys you wouldn't want to see them, and you told me to post them anyway . . . and when I did, you guys still went after me! :o :o :o

I'm glad you had a great time fishing. Whenever I see your photos, I always think about my Dad, who was a great fly fisherman. Sadly, I just got back from visiting my Dad, who was admitted to a nursing home last week when I was in Chicago. He's failing fast, and I don't think he'll be with us by Christmas. I'll miss him.

Nothing wrong with posting the cartoons, we had fun, but the fun was on you... :D

Sorry to hear about your dad, hope he don't suffer too much. Tom, You don't do flying fishing?

No, my Dad was a great fisherman . . . but a lousy teacher. :witzend: :witzend: He tried to teach me how to fly fish, but then he'd always get frustrated and give up. When I was seven or eight years old, he tried to teach me the Multiplication Table, and that didn't go well, either. :witzend: :witzend: Thank God for calculators!

We all have our strengths and weaknesses, and in other ways, my Dad was a great Dad.

The whole thing about the cartoons is ironic because I love all political cartoons. I used to think the ones about Reagan and the Bushes were hilarious, too. I think they all have a grain of truth to them.

Sorry to hear about your dad Tom. My dad passed away 13 years ago. This is how you keep his memory going:you become your father. My kids say I act like my father more and more each day. I don't know if that's so good.

You're right about a one pounder. Used to catch wild brown trout in the streams near Lake Henshaw on a drop line with a cheese ball on the hook. Very sweet.

On the hills above Lone Pine are the Alabama Hills, which was a major location for filming of the B-Western movies. Below are some photos of the hills, you can see some amazing rock formation.

When Republic Pictures made Westerns . . .

Frank, Republic Pictures made hundreds of those B grade Westerns before, during and after WW2. And they shot thruout that area, as well as Vaquez Rocks, etc.
I live in Studio City, where the old Republic Studio lot is now the CBS-TV Center, and has been for the past half century. In 1928, it opened as the Mack Sennett Studio.
As a kid, I grew up listening to my grandfather and family discuss those Westerns. My grandfather was a Warner Bros. artist, but occasionally he'd loan out to Republic. He lit a few of the Gene Autry & Roy Rogers films of the era.

I remember he would talk of a few of the old time Western actors he'd befriended.
One was an Autry sidekick, Smiley Burnett. He'd stop by and visit my grandfather at his home when I was a kid.
He then became a regular on the TV series, "Petticoat Junction".
I remember when I was a kid, I was watching Petticoat Junction and was surprised to see my grandad's buddy "Smiley" as the train engineer.
Before that, I never knew he was an actor, but he was a regular in most Gene Autry pics.

Today Smiley Burnett is buried just a few plots away from my grandparents. Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills.
I guess Michael Jackson is the new kid in the cemetary today.

Today when you walk down Ventura Blvd. in Studio City, the sidewalks between the studio near Laurel Canyon and Coldwater Canyon have a "Walk of Fame".
It's kind of like the Stars on Hollywood Blvd. only these all relate to various Republic & CBS Studio productions. This is where the Gilligan Lagoon was located until making room for a parking lot in the mid-90's. This is the studio that housed GUNSMOKE for twenty years. My Three Sons, The Wild, Wild, West, Seinfeld, Hill Street Blues . . . I did sit-coms here in the mid-90's. Lots of history.

However, those old Republic Westerns are classics.

My wife just got back from Michoacan. Here she is in our house watching everybody eat her food. I don't think she's ever been happier. All you have to do is look at her face.

Watching you guys eat good food up in those mountains and breathing the fresh air-no wonder training camps are built in areas like that.

I told you about Sid Flaherty having a similar camp in the foothills near Campo,California. When Flaherty and Danny Rodriguez were trying to work with Denny Moyer and Ronnie Wilson all that fresh air went stale. Food took a back seat to plenty of liquids.

Seeing you three fellas' sitting there knowing how to relish the good life makes me think I wish I had a camera back in the day to have taken a picture of the Irish clan sitting at a table training on Coors. I don't think their heads would be resting on the table because they would have knocked the beer over. Gee,I miss those guys.

I really liked these guys and I believe music isnt made like this anymore.
Rick Danko

Levi Helm
From the Last Waltz which was classic. Similar sentiment to Willies in this one. Rick Danko was great.

Hed always say the same damn thing.
