Hard fights look to be catching up with Perth puncher Danny Green, who ought to secure a monster payday with Anthony Mundine as quick as he can. Earlier today, Green was floored by Argentina's Omar Gonzalez in the second round of their fight in Australia, but survived to win on cuts in the fifth.
Gonzalez, you may remember, went out in 110 pathetic seconds against Brian Magee in Belfast last year.
Green has now struggled in his last two fights. He suffered exhaustion in outpointing New Zealand's Sean Sullivan in March.

Punching as hard as he does I wouldnt have expected him to be in too many wars in his career. he has only completed 61 rounds in 3 years as a pro..
and old Gonzales is a much better fighter than the Magee fight suggests. he really didnt wanna be there that night. he had previously gone 12 with Jurgen Brahmer and six rounds with Mads Larsen, both of which hit harder that Magee...
strange really, The lucas result looks good, but Lucas has never been the same since his thyroid problem....... Beyer has looked pretty shoddy too since they fought.

Boxing sure is unpredictable.I wonder if danny has gotten a bit too confident.perhaps he is on the wane(although i think not).just a pity i didnt see more of the fight(only a very small snippet on a late night sports show).greens opponent sure spat the dummy at the stoppage.didnt look like the knock down equated to green being in trouble but still when he has been bragging about taking Toneys best shots(albeit in sparring)and then gets clocked by this bloke.hmmmmmm.anyway a wins a win and i hope he gets another title shot -december if all goes toplan(?)
Green started very well against Beyer...and although was very unfortunate with how the fight was handled...i did sense tiredness and it wasn't a foregone conclusion that Green would have won that night. His KO win against Lucas looks very good. I dont think he's anything special...but heads the chasing pack at 168.
Green floored Beyer twice early but Beyer sustained a cut over his eye, when the fight was stopped Green was quite tired but the one questionable thing about it was that the headbutt was in a different place and had nothing to do with the bad cut (which had been caused by an earlier punch). Anyway i think Green really needs a big fight to keep him sharp, if he is developing a slight punch resistance problem then he is keeping in line with his Aussie counterparts Mundine and Briggs both of whom have varying chin problems.

Toney's pulling most of his punches in the sparring, although he did a couple of nice shots, particularly one right uppercut.
Green's quality, although may be best suited to 175. That said, the guys with the belts at 175 are probably looking elsewhere at the moment, and garnering a significant 168 title might work in his favour if he moves up.

The Knockdown was nothing he was of balance and he was up before the 1 count, the first round he was rusty but after the Knockdown he was dominating the fight and hurting Gonzales with his left hand(he injured his right hand in the first round). I don't think that Gonzales would have lasted past 6 rounds he was taking some good shots.
We got to see a fair bit of the sparring with Toney here and believe me Toney wasn't holding back Green was holding his own the whole time and at the end of the 7th round was unloading some big punches on Toney.
Apparently Toney didnt show up the first two days they were supposed to spar so Green rang his trainer and told him to tell Toney that he would be calling himself Lights Out after they spar to get him down there. Green said on tv here that after they sparred Toney threatened to shoot him and his trainer said that Toney was not happy that a 80Kg bag of bones had held his own against him.

I saw this footage, I think someone posted a link to it before. Toney was pulling his punches a bit but fair play to Green, he was getting stuck in.

After the rounds, he was running his mouth like a proper bad ass gangsta pimp ho thing. Giving it all the 'get my gun' lark. Behaving like a proper pillock, not sure if it was for show or not.
The actual sparring was fairly competetive, but there was a definite sense that Toney was prepared to let Green do the work. The old man's defence looked good, but Green got through a few times and took the few good hard shots Toney bothered with.
