I would imagine that much of the weight is put on by simply not exercising. The calorific intake of a professional sportsman is much higher that of your average joe, maybe double or so. So basically, food is being consumed at the same rate but not burned off as readily. I think this is why many former sportsmen seem to balloon when they retire-the level of exercise drops but the food intake doesn't.

I'm speaking in general terms though and am not answering for anyone in particular as everyone's different.

But surely the content of what they're eqting in training wouldnt pile on that much weight, so its a different diet. Someone like Junior Witter never puts much on, compared to Hatton who piles loads on - two extreemes.

Interesting how in boxing its pretty much accepted to not do much between fights, before going into camp again.
