John Hyland left Rooney's agent in tears.

Agent 'in tears following threat'

Wayne Rooney's agent was left in tears after being threatened over the player's contract, a court has heard.
John Hyland and brothers Christopher and Anthony Bacon all deny charges of blackmail at Warrington Crown Court.

The jury heard the men burst in when Rooney's agent Paul Stretford was talking to former agent Peter McIntosh.

Mr Hyland shouted at Mr Stretford to make him sign a contract which would have forced him to pay a percentage of Rooney's earnings, the court was told.

Mr Stretford left the hotel and telephoned his security consultant from his car, telling him what had transpired and he then burst into tears

Prosecutor John Hedgecoe told the court: "Mr Hyland was grossly aggressive and intimidating.

"He demanded that Mr Stretford sign the contract that was on the table.

"He shouted and repeatedly banged his fist on the table.

"Anthony Bacon stood to one side of Mr Stretford but Christopher Bacon leaned over Mr Stretford as he sat at the table, spoke menacingly to Mr Stretford and added to the general atmosphere of intimidation.

"After a little over two minutes, the three men left the room. Mr Stretford was terrified.

"Mr Stretford left the hotel and telephoned his security consultant from his car, telling him what had transpired and he then burst into tears."

The case continues.

John Hyland was a wonderful amateur and a successful businessman. These trumped-up charges should be thrown out of court. A football agent accusing someone else of underhanded tactics. Whatever next?

Whenever I saw John at ringside as a promoter I thought the same thing. The bald head and the pot belly disguise the fact Hyland was a sharp fighter. He played with Paul Hodkinson in the 1984 ABA's.

Yes it sounds like Wayne needs a new agent I reckon.

I remember John was an hot prospect for awhile, then he got badly wacked out in a couple of rounds by someone.

Manchester's Mike Whalley did him first as a pro - and Billy Hardy stopped him in two rounds for the British title. But Hyland was already over the hill before he turned pro, having had such a long amateur career. He stopped Hardy as an amateur.

I'm not sure i'd want someone who cries at the first sign of intimidation representing me. If he can't handle somebody banging their fist on a table, how's he going to negotiate the best possible deal for his clients? The guy is either in the wrong business or he's making the whole thing up.

I know a lot about this case, but better not say too much, but one if the guys charged with Hyland who allegedly put the shits up Stretford is Chris Bacon the former crusierweight who beat up israel Ajose and lost to gary delaney. believe me, Chris is one hard bastard who would make Tyson cry on the streets.

Wrestled at Olympic level, did and may still runs a lot of the doors in manchester and trains caged fighters

Bacon is a HARD bastard, not only is a good boxer, he also dabbles in cage fighting (beat UFC rep Lee Murray although the match was ruled a draw as there were no judges).

Bacon won a judo bronze medal in the 86kg class back in 1990...

It was Hyland who was on the 1984 Olympic team for LA. Included Rod Douglas, John Lyon (I think), Mickey Hughes and others.

I don't think Billy Hardy went.

Yes, indeed. Hyland was stopped in three by walking car park bollard Sung-Kil Moon.

I saw John, Chris and Anthony outside court yesterday. I hope for their sakes the defence team's decent, because the jury will, upon seeing Chris and Anthony, make assumptions about what kind of blokes they are. I reckon they'll struggle to get a NG to be honest.

Chris was a fairly handy fighter, I liked watching him. Bacon's Record

Apparently Chris and Hyland's legal mob produced a document that proved Stretford told porkies last week and the prosecution offered no further evidence.

fornicating hate football agents, bigger liars than football promoters.

Make Tyson cry on the streets?

Doubt it.

Tyson would just spark him.

probably, but if Tyson misses the punch he gets taken down and beaten to a pulp...

9 times out of 10 Tyson lands though and Bacon is sleeping
