Jones Jr - wants to avenge his KO losses to GJ and AT

Roy Jones junior has publicly declared on an American TV chat show that we would like to avenge the defeats to Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver.

Jones Jr first fought Antonio Tarver back in 2003 to a majority decion victory. Many pundits claimed that Tarver had done enough to seal victory and Roy was fortunate. Hence a rematch was organised for May 2004 which resulted in Tarver stunning the boxing world by knocking out Jones in 2 rounds.

Many fans believed this would be deemed 'Upset of the year' by the Ring magazine. But unfortunately for Roy, it wasn't.

Oh no, the upset of the year happened just 4 months later, whilst Roy was attempting to rebuild himself against veteran road warrior Glen Johnson.

During the 9th round Jones was counted out after overhand right put him on the canvas. He remained on the floor for a couple of minutes afterward but refused to be taken out on a stretcher.

The appearance today on the Calvin Murphy show, featured the almost customary telephone call between himself and Bernard Hopkins. Jones declared that he would fight Hopkins in a winner takes all bout. Whilst Bernard insisted on Roy taking 40% or the fight would never happen.

Whatever happens next, Roy should take care. A win over the extremely average Jeff Lacy has seemingly instilled a false level of confidence in him.

Let's not forget, Peter Manfredo junior lost to Lacy on Chuck Giampa's scorecard when they boxed by a single point. Journeymen Epifano Mendoza and Otis Griffin both held Lacy to a draw elsewhere on other fight scorecards. This will give you some sort of perspective.

I would love for Roy to beat Tarver convincingly. If Roy loses again, though, he should definitely call it quits.

Tarver may just have a style that will always give Jones problems. Sometimes this happens.

For Jones to call out Johnson is a really brave call. Nobody really wants to fight the unfashionable Glencoffe.

Why would he beat Tarver now? He had his chance to avenge the KO loss to Tarver and he got dominated. Does beating up on the shot hype job Jeff Lacy really mean that much to you?

If he could beat either guy, I`d be a little convinced he has recaptured something of his once exceptional past.

Agreed. He is done at the top level. Bernard would pick him apart.

Bizarre but true - if you read the full transcript of that interchange it really does seem like Hopkins doesn't fancy it again at all - and when RJJ says he'd fight 60/40 only if its winner takes 60, B-Hop wrangles out of it & hangs up!

He's already had enough tussles with Tarver for his career legacy

Johnson though - he only had the 1 fight and the bad loss - I would like to see him take that fight

Or Hopkins rematch

Whatever he does from here though will be a side note in his story - his best days are done

I hope he dont end up like Ali though - cos Roy cant seem to let boxing go - even into his 40's now
