Fight Academy have more contacts in the states than Hennessy and Warren put together.

In my eye eastman really needs to go over to the states and knock some of their boys over on undercards. Now and again eastman will try to blast his opponents out and its often entertaining to watch when he goes toe to toe. He has only been to the states once and that time he lost, how will he convince anyone. I think Hennassy has done a good job although maybe if he was like certain less scroupulouse promoters he could have pushed the issue a little more. Other than that what could he do.

I think that Tito will fight Hopkins but it is consevable that a deal can be made for eastman to fight someone of the robbert allan antwun Ecols ilk, a known yank who he could beat.

Can't say I am surprised, for one reason or another the WBC Eliminator that Eastman was supposed to fight has been cancelled on a numerous of occasions.

The WBC were right to order that eliminator because Eastman became the number 1 by default (Morrade Haakar losing his crack). Usually this means an eliminator (happend to Woods).

The match never got happend and Eastman I think only fought 1 guy ranked in the WBC top ten at the time (and I'm not even sure Tatesvyan was in the top ten). He was on dodgy ground.

Whilst we can be crtical of Tito being placed at #1, Eastman (like Witter with the WBO) was on dodgy ground as soon as that eliminator with Sarnavia and then Taylor never happend.

I feel sorry for Morrade Haakar, I don't think I have ever seen a fight fall 27 places in the rankings after losing his mandatory shot.

Of course, I guess there is a chance the IBF will strip him for failing to defend against #1 contender. Tszyu has possible fights against the winner of Gatti/Mayweather, Cotto, has Mitchell next who he may lose to, who negotiations broke down against.

This isn't the first time Hatton has been mandatory after all. Saying he has done it the hard way is stretching it a bit. Whilst Harris definetly priced himself out of the fight, It would have been interesting to see the fight go to purse bids, and see what Harris' reaction would have been then. I don't think he fancied his chances against Hatton to be honest, but he's fighting for a lot less than he was offered now. Mike Stewart was not as tough a test as Tackie, and hardly the most threatening final eliminator going.
Vivian Harris does not fear Ricky Hatton, watch the Urkal fight and you will see he has everything to give Hatton nightmares. Hatton said himself that Vivian wanted the fight to go to purse bids an thats why he pulled out, Ricky didn't want to get less money. Maybe Vivian though Ricky really wanted a world title and would be willing to go to purse bids if thats what it was going to take.

Didn't a simular thing hapen in 1991 to Juan Carlos Giménez Ferreyra when he disappeared out of the WBO ratings to make way for the Eubank Vs Watson rematch at 168lbs.

Left Hook, I'm not disagreeing with you that Harris fears Hatton, he was just knacked that Ricky was getting more than him.

However, I fail to see anything in the Urkal fight that should really worry Hatton (apart from the Turk). Urkal was robbed badly in that fight and Harris didn't look impressive. I only hope justice is done in the proposed rematch.

Unfortunately for Eastman, Tito's victory over Mayorga on Saturday was greater than the sum of the last 3 years of Howard's career which is why this doesn't pee me off that much.

I would far rather see Hopkins-Trinidad 2 than Hopkins-Eastman and that's coming from quite a patriotic British boxing fan.

Agree on both accounts, whilst people here are saying well Trinidad only beat a Welterweight. I do believe Mayorga was ranked by the organisations in the top ten at Middleweight.

Regardless of whether he was or wasn't, your statement is still accurate and correct.

Im not being funny but I watched that fight live when I was in south africa Haakar was terrible, really bad. H e was literally running around the ring with his gloves by his ears for the first 3 rounds, Ive never seen a boxer so terrified in my life.

He bottled it mate totally and utterly, didnt even try just wanted to get out of there, sorry but thats not good enough at the top level so I dont dispute his rankings dropping 27 places, shoudl have been more on that performance.

I have to say though it was a pretty hostile environment back then the Iraq war had just come to the fore and the yanks really played it as USA vs France battle. There was alot of animosity from the home crowd to the frenchman.
They gave him heaps when he came in the ring, then he had to face hopkins who was doing his usual x sign and drawing his fingers accross his throat, I think Haakars arsehole just collapsed mate to be honest.

No one on that showing could have been mandatory number 1.

J, start watching that fight from round 3 onwards and Haakar doesn't look that bad. He's tough it just took a while for him to get his balls back.

I think a fight with Haakar & Eastman would go right down to the wire.

Yes Hakkar did make a fight of it eventually, but only because Hopkins allowed him to, he obviously didn't want to make himself look bad by just bombing him out, it was a hometown fight wasn't it?

As soon as Hopkins turned up the heat, Hakkar crumpled pretty fast.

I think Eastman would beat him, but it's notable that he struggled with Tatevosyan and he hasn't looked exceptional for quite some time.

Spoke to someone last night about Hassine Cherifi, and they told me that prior to the Eastman fight, Cherifi was getting knocked silly in the gym for quite some time.

Sure Hopkins had very little trouble with Haakar, but I doubt he'd be on panic stations were Tatevosyan standing in the opposite corner either.

I think that Hopkins often flatters his opponents by fighting just enough to get the win. Remember how he looked against Keith Holmes? I have always believed that he basically fought within himself to make sure that Tito and DK didn't get the horrors and cancel the fight. Hop looked awful against Holmes, slow, old and very beatable, just like he wanted them to think. Totally different proposition against Trinidad, boxed his ass off and then broke him down with ease.

I think Eastman often fights within himself too, but the difference is that when he needs to move up the gears in a harder fight, such as the Joppy bout, he doesn't seem to have that extra gear or aggression to make it his fight. I also think he gets the impression he's doing a lot better in fights sometimes, than he actually is.

Tateosyan has lost recently (since the Eastman bout) which really suggests to me that his ranking was inflated somewhat.

I think Tateosyan and Haakar have a similar style (in my limited viewing of them). In my opinion, and I'm probably alone here, Tateosyan BEAT Eastman so those thinking Haakar wouldn't pose any questions are wrong.

Eastman entire record is based on a closish fight with a faded Joppy (performances prior and after that fight indicate this) and if it wasn't for a flash knockdown with 2 seconds left in the bout, he would have lost the fight byas much as 4 rounds on one of the cards and nobody would have even disputed the decision.

Eastman won the crowd over with his antics and thats why they were booing, it was hardly a gift of a decision.

With regards to Haakar's ranking, if I remember correctly Haakar was the reigning European champion at the time of the Hopkins bout and never lost that title in the ring. I don't think he has lost since the Hopkins bout, so he really shouldn't have fallen quite so low.

Really Eastman has only matched the achievements of Morrade, a reigning European champion who hasn't scored a win against a world top ten rated opponent. Does he deserve the mandatory?

You have to remember that Hakkar wasnt the #1 ranked WBC fighter, he was only #2. #1 was Erland Betare but he didnt want to fight Hopkins. Hakkar was european champ. First he was robbed big time in Italy in his first fight vs Sanavia, EBU dictated a rematch in which Hakkar knocked Sanavia out.
