Like most of you guys, I am a big Haye fan but I really don't think he has done himself any favours this year with his constant talking, inactivity and ultimately unreliability.

I hope Haye gets the Valuev fight as if it falls through he is going to be in an extremely bad position. I cannot see the Klitschko's wanting to deal with Haye again after his stupid decision to pull out of the Vitali fight. After all of his talk, he is seriously lacking credibility at the moment and could find himself frozen out altogether.

This whole scenario brings to mind a classic anecdote in George Best's autobiography - Best is past his prime and playing in some kind of charity game and a young lad tries to make a name for himself by taking him out. The next time Best just nudges the ball slightly too far on purpose and follows through on the lad, absolutely nailing him. The lad's manager subsequently walks up to Best and says something along the lines of 'Fair enough George, kittens don't f*ck with cats.'
Now the reason for this somewhat rambling anecdote, is that Haye seems to be finding out the hard way that while in boxing terms he's undoubtedly a 'cat', when it comes to promotion and the politics involved, he (and Adam Booth) are increasingly looking like 'kittens'.
He's in real danger here of shafting his whole career through a combination of misplaced confidence, ignorance and falling prey to the horrible 'minefield' that is the world of boxing promotions.
Even worse than that, it looks like he could be dragging other young talents down with him like Groves and Price.
I'm really split on this one, hence the monologue, as while I admire Haye's (and Booth's) courage in trying to do things the 'right way' (and I genuinely believe they are pretty ethical people), I'm also shaking my head at the level of naivety or arrogance (depending on your perspective) which made them think they could 'reinvent' the world they operate in.
The sad fact is that love him or loathe him, Warren would have made Haye a very, very wealthy man and would have provided him with the 'safest' route to the top. I'm not saying I even advocate that approach, but if Haye now faces being frozen out and what should be his prime years instead become a case study in how to kill a fighter's career, you have to wonder whether he'd do it differently if he had his time again.

David Haye's bid for the WBA heavyweight title will go ahead after John Ruiz agreed to stand aside as the mandatory challenger to champion Nikolai Valuev.

Reports on Wednesday claimed that Ruiz was ready to take action to scupper to planned showdown between Haye and Valuev in Germany on November 7.

And with the fight yet to be sanctioned by the WBA, Haye could have seen his world hopes scuppered.

However Valuev's promoters Sauerland Events have claimed a deal has now been agreed with former champion Ruiz for the fight to go ahead as planned.

In a statement Chris Meyer, general manager of Sauerland Events, said: "There is absolutely no problem with the Valuev-Haye bout. Everything has been sorted out.

"We have struck a deal with Team Ruiz for him to step aside. Our attorneys are just putting it in writing.

"Once this contract has been signed, we will submit the necessary papers to the WBA by the end of this week.

"German TV ARD and UK's Sky Box Office have booked the November 7 date in their schedules. We are just discussing the dates for the press conference.

"Valuev is scheduled to start his final preparations at the beginning of September."

Still assuming he (Haye) wins at least we won't have to wonder who his first defence is against, thats a gimmee. :box:

i agree re the frustration since haye has moved up to heavyweight.

it's been a fiasco. but if setanta were his source of money, then he might not have had much choice

if ruiz has stepped aside and haye v valuev for the WBA title, let's just hope that haye does well. because he's been great for british boxing, especially when he was EBU and World cruiserweight champion.

I don't see how Haye's decision to pull out was stupid?

Would you get in there and fight Vitali for no money which was what it would have amounted to. It's easy to say "yeah, but Haye could have gotten a big opportunity if he won."

The counterpoint is that he could have got battered senseless, detached a retina, or ended up with brain damage, and never fought again, and not earned a penny for his troubles.

I agree that Haye is finding out the hard way that promotions is a game that is best played by big hitters, but I do not blame him if he did pull out because of the setanta situation.

Depends where it is; if it's somewhere like Berlin, or Munich or Dusseldorf, then I'd love to go.

yep.

to go in there and not be paid would have been crazy.

and what the hell maybe his back was playing him up. :D

valuev is a more sensible fight than fighting vitali anyway.

the plan should be to get wladimir in the ring. :box:

vitali can wait a while. :>

But James, Hitman: The Vitali fight had nothing to do with the Setanta situation. I think you are both referring to the fight with Wladimir and I would agree with you that he shouldn't fight for nothing there.

Anyway it looks like the Valuev fight is on now so there is no problem.

I'm praying for Mannheim (20 mins from my mates house) or Dusseldorf (2.5 hours) so I can go and have somewhere to stay over!

Haye cost me £2500. Thats how much I would have won after Vladimir took his head off or after he took valdimirs head off. As long as someone head got taken off I was quids in

After bitching out of both - or at least one of the- fights I actually hope Valuev knocks him out.

I'm keeping my ear to the ground on this one. Ruiz agreed to step aside today so it's on but no more details until Monday.

Am really hoping this is on as would provide the basic's for my birthday celebration's if Haye won! lol

I really think he could do this but hope his inactivity does not affect him too much, He has all the skill's and Valuev would provide a good preparation for the Klitschko's re the size aspect.

Just want to see Haye get back to doing what he does best!

valuev or vitali.

valuev is the better fight.

it's only haye's 2nd fight at heavy.

vitali is a real handful.

valuev is a slower ponderous fighter.

wladimir should be the fight to aim for.

haye wallops him into the middle of next week i reckon. :D

yep, good luck to Haye. I think it's been a farce, recent events, and he hasn't picked up any new fans since his thrilling run at cruiserweight from being EBU champ to world champ.

hopefully he beats Valuev. hopefully he gets through the fight without gassing or getting knocked out.

i can see why ppl are pissed off with Haye, when they've made plans to see him fight only for some new development to ruin things. he's certainly become unreliable and i doubt he's made many friends in the industry. also he has had a responsibility for the fighters that have signed with him, none of whom have gone anywhere since the folding of Setanta.

but Haye - if he wins - is sparing the world Valuev-Ruiz 3, so that is one thing to be happy about. another thing is, some really interesting fights could happen if Haye wins the WBA crown. Haye throws power shots with stunning swiftness and while he won't be a dominant champ like the Klitschkos, he will be more exciting.

Dominant champ like the Klitschko's, Wladmir has hardly been dominant and to be fair Vitali hasn't exactly set the world alight to be fair.....

Wladimir has been beating top 10 ranked fighters with ease. He is one of the most dominant champions in boxing at the moment.

together they are dominating though. vitali has looked superb in those 2 recent WBC title fights - a big man who can dominate and deliver. wladimir keeps on winning (and holding, and fencing, and turning his back on the opponent whenever in close) - unfortunately.

Still maintain they are not dominating as such, They are hardly blowing the Heavyweight scene apart, Vitali has beaten two fighter's who it would have been a joke if he had lost and Wladmir was getting his arse whooped by Lamon Brewster not too long ago!
