Hatton -v- Khan 31st December??????

Post by Rumpole »

I don't know whether my p.c. is on the blink or the bookies are taking the piss.

On checking the latest odds on certain fights that I am interested in, I see that; both William Hill and Bet Fred are offering odds on an Amir Khan v Ricky Hatton fight to take place before 31st December this year.

Is this a speculative match, or do the bookies know something that we don't?

Both have talked it up and with Khan's reach speed and reach of the jab compared with hatton's age and the fact he looks to be fading - prematurly because of his hard living IMHO - Warren probably fancies it more than he might.

Would be a good fight and would have the potential to sell out old trafford.

Don't think there's any chance of this happening this year. Maybe sometime next year if Khan can keep winning and Hatton wants another pay day, but it doesn't look like Hatton has any plans for a quick return to the ring.

i dont see it happening to be honest. Ricky has said today that he plans to recharge his batteries and then there may be a possible comeback. But i dont see it happening before christmas.
Khan would fancy this, it would be a perfect time to face ricky, but i cant see it happenin

Hasn't Ricky already said that a fight with Khan would only happen if he were to promote it?

Can't see this happening soon lads if at all.

khan would beat him next Friday and blow him to smitherines in 2 rounds next year.

Khan is going to carry on getting stronger and stronger. Hatton's best days are behind him when it comes to boxing. Khan will become a multiple world title holder IMO. His chin isn't as bad as some detractors like to think, he got blitzed cold which anyone can do and he's always got up to win , and win quickly in the other fights.

mind you if I was Hatton and worst case scenario I just had to get smacked once or twice and take a knee for ten seconds for 2.5 million quid I'd do it probably.

Khan beat Kotelnik only by fighting extremely conservatively, there are far more adept and frightening guys at 140 than Kotelnik, 147 and 154.

Khan may win multiple titles, but only by fighting the weakest champs in each division.

Hatton is shot to shite, imo - comapred to what he once was.
Khan stops him and early, I am sure AMIR hits as hard as Lazcano and we all saw how buzzed Hatton was from small little old Lazcano..

Hatton nah ave it, Man - stick a fork inna im - im done!

( Hatton no longer has it - stick a fork in him - because he is shot)

The fact the bookies are offering odds for the fight to happen before 31st December means nothing. Bookies do this regularly whenever a couple of big named fighters are close to being on each others radars. Often you might find one fighter with several different oponents listed, each with their own odds and all to happen before, for example, 31st December.

Its similar to an ante post bet, only that if the fight never happens, you get your stake back.

Hatton would beat him to expeirenced for him he would cut off the ring and catch him when he loses his concentration I see a late KO would be a good domestic fight though Khan hasnt fought anyone as relenting as Hatton imo

predictable opinion from Dennis the Menace.

i'm not suggesting hatton is the force he was around 03,04,05.

he's had some tough fights since then and has looked rough round the edges in recent fights.

but were talking about amir khan here.

all that gay flurrying ain't keeping hatton at bay.

I think Hatton would be crazy to take the fight for 2 reasons:

1. Hatton's legacy would be badly damaged if he was beaten by Khan, which is a real possibility. Hatton has only been beaten by the 2 best lb for lb fighters in the world so far and a defeat to Khan would lead people to question whether Hatton was really world class. In addition, I don't think he'd get great credit if he beat Khan. People would just say that he beat a prospect who had already been knocked out in 1 round.

2. Hatton could make much more money by fighting other guys. If Hatton wanted to fight on, I'm sure someone like Oscar de la Hoya would be interested in a match which would gross much more than he could make by fighting Khan. Other possible fights would be against people like Shane Mosley or Juan Manuel Marquez if he loses to Mayweather. Hatton is still a huge draw in world boxing and does not need Khan for a payday.

who the hell would want to watch that?.....they could bill it as the battle of the promoters....I'd sooner watch Frank Maloney and Meaty Mick go at it.

As for Mosely well he would just dispatch with Hatton in approximately 4 rounds. Too fast, too clever,too...better.

Khan isn't a prospect either, he's World Champion.

The point I'm making NorthEastBoxing Fan is that Hatton doesn't need to fight Khan to prove anything. Beating Khan will do absolutely nothing for his legacy and if he is fighting for money then the fights I listed would make him considerably more. The only other reason Hatton would consider the fight is for the fans in Britain. That said, he never fought Witter so there is no reason to think he will fight Khan either.

american tv would buy it though.

the uk gate would be massive.

it would make the money alright.

but all the time khan sticks it out with allegedly it's a dead fight. :shame:
