Does anyone remember a boxer called Rennie Edwards? He was from Haverfordwest and boxed out of Pembroke ABC. He was Welsh amateur Featherweight Champion and I’m pretty sure he reached an ABA final in the late 80’s.
I can’t get my brain into gear tonight but I think he turned pro in the Colin Jones camp and had around ten fights.
Perhaps Bennie or one of the Welsh posters can put me straight on this.
Anyway, found this story on him, seems like he’s in a bad way. The article has him as a schoolboy champion but he was a lot more than that:

Rennie Edwards didn't quite make it to an ABA final. Seem to recall him losing to Colin McMillan in the ABA semi's of 1987 or 1988. Had a chat to my old man, he knew Rennie.
Rennie was of gypsy decent although his family had settled in the area (Haverfordwest). His father was pretty handy and was renowned to be a tough street fighter.
Rennie himself was one of the best amateurs this area has ever produced and, as Bennie said, he had quite a dig on him.
There was some reason as to why Rennie packed it in so early, my father can't remember why but it was something like injury.

Thanks for the input, I was hoping Bennie and Stu would come up with some info.
I agree with Stu's Dad. Rennie for me was the best prospect to come out of Pembrokeshire between Chris Lawson (late 70's) and Scott Gammer now. Which is why it was a bit disappointing his career didn't take off.
Sending a card to Rennie would be a nice touch, as would Boxing News relating this story.
Just found another article from the local paper. Says he was refused a license due to a medical condition:

Lamphy, speaking of Pembrokeshire fighters - did you ever get the chance to see local Amateur Phill Morris in action. Represented his country on many occasions and had 99 amateur contest. I have been training with him and have learned more in these one to one sessions that during my years with a now defunct amateur club.
