Herbie Hide - when does he get title shot?

Post by Autobarn »

Hide's got the WBC International cruiserweight title, and he's the WBC #2 challenger. Matt Godfrey pulled out of their eliminator fight. I wonder how long it will take Hide to get a shot at WBC holder Fragomeni.

It's not hard to see Hide winning the title. Frago is tough and good, but a bit chubby, undersized and underpowered. He's about the same age as Hide, as well. He won his title on a technical decision, after head clashes I believe (and Kraj never got a rematch). Frago retained his title on a thrilling, controversial draw with Wlodarczyk.

Hide, meanwhile, is pretty well preserved, big for the weight having been a heavyweight. Probably doesn't have the reflexes or chin to get away with his style vs the top fighters at 200. But a good chance vs Fragomeni.

Damn it can take British fighters so long to get a title shot. Any news on Hide's title chance?

I'm looking at his record wondering if his best opponent since Vitali Klitschko is Ehinomen Ehikhamenor, runner up in the latest Contender.

I fully expect Hide to lose when he gets his title shot. I don't think he's a patch on his former self.

Come on you lot, don't be nasty. It was the super heavyweight punches, among other factors, that undid him. I don't see any super heavyweights down at cruiser.

The WBC champ is a fat light heavyweight, short, and with a light punch: Fragomeni. Hide is WBC #2, and WBC International champ.

Everyone fringes their way to a world title, by fighting has-beens & obscurites. Hide was up for the WBC elim, but Fatt Godfrey didn't make himself available.

Hide can beat Fragomeni. I would worry if it ends up in Italy. If Hide hurts him with an illegal punch, hits him while he's down, etc, could be trouble and waste his big chance...When Ahmet Ohner recovers from being shot in a car park, will he deliver Herbie's title fight?

I actually do think it is odd / not nice that Herbie is being shafted at the moment. A world title fight doesn't even seem to be on the horizon - yet he's been nursing a lofty position with the WBC for a long time.

HOWEVER, Autobarn.... have you seen him on Eurosport recently - he looks a shadow of his old self - his accuracy is terrible and he telegraphs everything. He has the punch still, and Fragomeni whilst tough has been KO'd - his chin still seems poor to me, as indicated in one of these cruiser fights when he suffered a bad KD from a nothing punch.

He has a punchers chance against anyone though.

Yeah I got some of those Arena Box cards when he started his comeback...And I saw the Rudigey May fight.

He does make loads of mistakes as ever, but looks big and strong at the weight. He's still a nutter, lunging in and pulling straight back. Hitting the back of the head and flirting with point deductions. He doesn't have that explosive power anymore, and certainly doesn't "dance" anymore. But he looks fit/lean compared to many cruisers.

I think Godfrey pulled out of the WBC elim because he was offered a tentative fight with Adamek, the proper champ. However, Showtime wouldn't come up with the money for Adamek-Godfrey. I hope Godfrey didn't pull out, for no bloody reason.

Anyway, we don't have many world champs. Let's see it, Herbie!

Hide looked like dogshit last time I saw him. He was just loading up with every single punch, and almost fell over several times from overbalancing.

Hide fights like a maniac.

Come on, Herbie!

He's too big for Fragomeni, I reckon. Though he could well get himself DQ'd.

thing is, Herbie isn't even punching all that hard these days, his punch power was always based on his quick hands and feet, he ain't got them any more, nor the balance to put the power in there.

I'm just being truthful with my post above. I won't lie. Herbie obviously has a chance, but I don't think he'll be able to KO Fragomeni, and he's definitely not going to win on the cards (in Italy).

I have alway's been a massive fan of Hide and really fell he has under achieved in his career and definately never made the most of his skill's!!

Having a fragile jaw never helped him but with his speed and skill's he should have been far more elusive......If he train's hard and keep's in good nick maybe he can have one last run at it but as has been said he has struggled against mediocre opponent's which is never a good sign but will he step up once the class of his opponent's does?

Tell him not to worry about Jelly baby's Tijuana and to get his arse in the gym and get after that title!!

Vitali KO'd him with a miss, so that blows your theory right out of the water.

Hide wont be winning a genuine world title at any weight, he's done!

it wasn't a miss. the jab knocked him out, the right hand missed. then geniuses across the world say he was KO'd by a miss. slow motion replay, anyone?
