Women's Super Middleweight Rankings

Post by chicago18 »

Question: How is it that Leatitia Robinson and Valerie Mahfood are ranked under Super Middleweight when they fought on Friday for the IBA Continetal Light Heavyweight belt? Also, why is Vonda Ward ranked under Super Middleweight when her last fight was a light heavyweight bout against Ann Wolfe?

I was told that in Women's boxing they don't take it that seriuos. The choice of opponents in the weightclasses are sometimes limited so they keep changing.

This is in scope:

1. We just see the problem with ranking the boxers in a correct division.

2. This issue is related to the the question - should a boxer simply keep his points, when he moves up (or down) the divisions - as we now do?

I suppose, the optimized rating in the new division should depend upon the rating in the old division, but there might be an optimized pointage between

- just keeping the old points and
- a complete re-start at 1,000 points in the new division.

I will try to find this optimized relation - maybe different for different different divisions - maybe depending on weight relations.

3. This would allow for assigning different pointages (ratings) to a boxer for different divisions he boxed in.

4. The correct division, where a boxer could be ranked officially, would then be

- the division, where he owns most points
- and where he has boxed in the last year

....

Best regards
