Jones Jnr/ Green undercard... who should feature?

Post by Hounddawg »

After the captain Hook promotion earlier this month, Jason Litzau and BJ Flores expressed interest in fighting on the undercard of the Australian Square Ring promotion between Green and Jones Jnr in November.
I welcome the two americans to come to Australia, and hope that we can find matchups from Australia to square of with them.

Considering this is the biggest boxing event in Australia since RushCutters bay a 100 years ago and Roy's square ring promotions team behind him we should be in for a very decent undercard as well.
This is one of the biggest opportunitys for our current crop to showcase there talents to the world, with this obviously being broadcast to multiple countrys including the one country you want to impress.. the US.

You would think that some of our current talent would be falling over themselves to get on this card to get a shot at a decent import.

I would like to see some of talent on display either against each other or against some decent imports, Guys Like Zappa, Medley,Vea, Omotoso,DeMori ect getting decent opposition to showcase there talent, i realise De Mori has King behind him, and Zappa has Shaw interested, but the talent should still be displayed.

What are peoples thoughts?

Is it bigger than the Kostya Tszyu vs Jesse James Leija fight?

Im not really worried who they put on . As long as there matched well.

Why not have LoPorto-Bryant Rematch. Asiku-Dib. Dawson-Medley. DeMori Vs Meehan ( This would be a great fight)

Have them 4 fights then the Main event.

Dont quite get what you mean, will it be bigger or are you asking is it bigger?

Isn't Green vs Mundine the biggest fight?

If it's the undercard that your talking about, it wasn't bad,not great, but you would think with Jones jnr coming here theres got to be some serious cash to put a spectacle on.

Love Kostya but a Jones Jnr he is not, and most of Australia really identify with Green, i do expect this to be the biggest ever, a shite undercard would certainly take the shine off it.

Of course the undercard must feature our man: Mundine in the main prelim. An Argie like Juan Francesco Benitez with the suitable record of 1(0) - 21(17) - 1 is just the right level of opposition for the feckless Mundine.

I was thinking that the Kostya fight was the biggest since Jack Johnson in 1910 and that although Jones Jr vs Green will be big, I think the Kostya fight was of more importance.

Either way, Australia wins in that we get a top main event.

I really hope RJJ/Square Ring can bring some Americans down to square off with out boys. If you had Flores v Vea and then "The American Boy" v Katsidis or Zappa that would be a great card for the PPV right there!!!

Then you could add some Aussie match ups before that for the Live audience...

N'dou v Omotoso
Dawson v Waters
Tongia v Bolling
Ganoy v Kickett
Davey Browne v Joel Brunker

These would all have big interest, not sure how if any would happen though...

Interesting. Aust has some great talent, for example look at the Light Middleweight Div.
Daniel Dawson.
Rob Medley.
Ryan Waters.
King Davidson.
Frank La Porto.
Surely we could make some great match ups among these talented Boxers ???

I would love to see either Kickett or Zappa V Litzau

I think Zappa doesn't need the risk just yet but Kickett definitely needs a good win to re-establish himself as a contender. This fight would be great for Willie!!!

Flores V Vea would be cool too!!

Daniel Dawson V anyone would be good also.

I really like the idea of Flores and Litzau coming down to Australia.
I mean the idea of having a 3 main international card with 3 other good domestic matchups really gets me pumped, and with Jones involved anything is possible.

Fights I'd like to see;

Green v Jones jnr
Vea v Flores
Katsidis v Litzau ( Lenny is scheduled to fight that month in the states :verysad: )
Omotoso v Ndou (IBO strap)
Bolling v Powencby
De Mori v Meehan ( Don King promoted so highly unlikely)

Or any of these;
Dawson v Medley
King v Waters
Browne v Brunker
Dib v Asiku
Demori v Leapai
ect

It would be extremely good to see some of these or other matchups mentioned considered.
As stated earlier, what fantastic exposure for those who haven't quite made it, or who are on the cusp of an international career to show an international audience what they can do.....once in a lifetime opportunity really.

I agree mate, a division with that much depth and yet the only 2 fighters to fight each other are King v La porto wich was ruled TD win to King with half the fight to go.

They all can't be champs, so the competition between them will only prepare the victors for a move overseas while the others gain valuable experience.

PS You can throw Robbie Bryant in the mix to make Six

Mate not to be a knowall but Green vs Mundine eclipsed that mark, which i think can be broken by this fight.

I love Kostya as stated previously, and it was an important fight for him. This bloke Jones jnr IMO and most others is considered Top5 P4P all time, he won the boxer of the decade for the 90s, they had to choose :Lennox,Tyson,Holyfield,Bowe,Hopkins, toney,DelaHoya,Trinadad, sweetpea, Mosely and many more and this guy was voted the best.IMO no one since Tyson had that aire of invincability that Jones Jnr had, some people only remember how he lost and thats there lasting memory. All though not the same fighter from years gone by I still think this version of Roy still kicks
Mundines ass inside 8. So to cap of i think it's an extremely important fight for Danny in his career, and what an achievement it will be.

My early bird mail is that Asiku and Kickett are two guys on the under card. They will fight two filo's, (not based here), but from the Phils.

Not confirmed yet.
