British prospects - 15 fights or less

Post by Wake up call »

Hi all

I wanted to get an idea of who you, the knowlegdable Boxrec faithful, believe are the best British prospects.

Usually when these prospects threads start they descend into banter about the likes of Nathan Cleverlys, Kell Brooks and Kevin Mitchells of this world. But as they are already champions I'd like to exclude them from this and concentrate on the upcomers who have had less than 15 fights.

Obviously I'm expecting names such as Bellew, Degale, Gavin, Saunders etc to pop up but is there anyone else that people really rate?

Good list. All of the main ones covered. Good to see Denton Vassell on there, he's a good fighter and a top fella to boot.

If I was to add to it I'd possibly include Ronnie Heffron (0 - 0) ABA champ soon to go pro and Brian Rose.

Great choice them 3. Another little great fighter to put in the pot Stu Hall Darlington very strong for his weight. I see this kid challenging for a domestic title.

Josh Wale is great little fighters. Throws over 100 punches a round. Top kid as well. When I last spoke to him we had a ended up having a two hour chat about everything boxing related. He really does love the sport.

Yes he is very active I saw him fighting in Aberdeen on the undercard of McAllister I was very impressed also seems quite strong for his weight :TU:

Good shout Danny.

Karl Place was really impressive in his last fight. Seems like Bobby Rimmer has a whole stable of prospects. Jack Arnfield and Brian Rose are both doing well and I like the look of Kieran Farrell as well. He looks like a kid but he's agressive with a high work rate and at flyweight he probabaly won't need many fights to establish himself.

Arnfield's not bad, Rose is very technically proficient but Place seems to have that x factor.

Yeah, I think Rose's biggest problem is that he can switch off in fights sometimes and make it harder than he needs to like he did against Manoo Salari but with Bobby in his corner I think he's got the right man to give him a kick when it's needed.

I've only seen Karl Place once so far but, like I said, very impressed.

And obviously Bobby has Jaffa as well now.

George Groves and Steve Smith look very good. Also heard good things from Groves' sparring that suggest he can go a long way.

Two up-and-coming fighters from Sheffield to watch out for are Steve Barnes and Abdul Barry 'Kid Galahad' Awad, who makes his pro debut next Sat on the O'Donnell undercard. Despite Steve boxing poorly last time out he is talented, very fit, very strong and very dedicated - he's a major prospect for my money.

Barry is a tricky customer - definitely one to watch out for

Nobody mentioned chris goodwin form chester yet, neither does he appear on anyones list. Heard lots of good things about this kid. Only 18 or 19 too. Best thing about Goodwin ishe's being allowed to learn and ply his trade without too much pressure of performaing on TV (like the sheffield kid the other week - the one who can live int he woods witha bag and a piece of flint).

From what i've seen of Dickinson in the pro ranks I havent been that impressed he looks to relaxed and laboured but its still early days

Fair comment, but if he dedicates he can be the dogs. There is undoubted promise though as both wins over Groves were not flukes

Adil Anwar the platinum kid, one loss early on dosn't mean a thing. A glitch could be a wake up call.

Seen Adil several times on Mark Bateson's shows in Leeds. He's got all the moves and his was knockout of Scott Sandmann last year was a beauty. Not sure how far he can go though. I'd love to see him go far because Leeds really needs some name fighters but got a feeling he might struggle beyond Area title level. Tommy Broadbent looks the best prospect out of that stable IMO but needs to ensure he keeps himself out of trouble.
