Holyfield-Moorer I: Your Scores?

Post by dempseyfire »

Re-watched the fight last night and was surprised I had it a draw: I remembered Moorer winning more comfortably but I think it would have been very concievable for Evander to have won the fight with minimal controversey. Thoughts?

I believe I had it a draw, also, though that was many moons ago. I still own the fight (have never seen the sequel!). The irony on my DVD is listening to Foreman complain about how the decision was, "just plain wrong," & how Holyfield, "did enough" for the result. Two days later, he's on the phone to Arum arranging a fight with Moorer which, had the result not swung Double M's way, wouldn't have catapaulted Big George to his most remarkable achievement!

- Last I checked he lost the fight with absolutely no controversy whatsoever other than how he came to have such a hard heart that caused his retirement.

No, there was considerable controversy over the scoring of the 2nd round, which is what decided the outcome of the fight.

Which it shouldn't have, Moorer won the fight clearly imo. The second fight was more of the same until Moorers chin betrayed him. Holyfield did not look good against Moorer, never could figure out the southpaw jab and the "heart problem" did not make things better. Holyfield did get better at cycling his meds though.

I had it for Moorer. Holyfield couldn't handle that southpaw jab the first bout.

i thought holyfield won the first fight and it should have been a draw anyway. holyfield knocks down moorer in the second and the one judge gave it to holy 10-9. wtf??

Moorers straight almost vertical jab was one of the key factors in
this fight. I want to rewathc and score it soon.

- The outcome of the fight was that 31 yr old Mr. Field had to retire a year to nurse his "hard heart."

Thankfully "God" cured his heart, no doubt in the form of some
better vitaminS.

I read in Sports Illustrated after the fight happened that one of the judges scored the 2nd round 10-10, which is an impossibility given Holyfield scored a knockdown. He deserved no less than 10-9 and even that is being generous. Scoring the 10-10 round 10-9 would have turned the fight into a draw.
