Off Topic: Christopher Reeve R.I.P.

Post by stujones »

Was quite shocked to hear of the death of Christopher Reeve, the man who shot to fame as Superman and renowned for his own bravery and charitable work suffered a heart attack and died on Sunday.

Those who saw the recent documentary on him and his fight to walk will be saddend that he never got to achieve his dream. However, he inspired many not to give up.

My thoughts are with his family.

the one thing that got me really angry about this was the fact that the infection which caused the heart attack originally developed from a pressure sore! pressure sores are prevented by one course of action and one only which is regularly moving the individual. its as simple and basic as that. for this to lead to someones death in this day and age is horrendous.

RIP the man of steel

Whilst I was shocked at the timing, I wasn't surprised at the cause of death. I have studied the phyisology of the heart and did a module on myocardial infarction. One of the biggest things that can help a patient at risk of a heart attack is moving, thats why you see people out of hosptial after a by-pass within a few days. The family would be complaining that the hospital are not treating the patient well enough, but they kick him/her out of bed for their own good and health.

this is true stu but theres never any need for pressure sores to develop in the first place. simply moving someone every few hours from a sitting position, to a lying position or from their left to their right side is more than enough to prevent pressure sores. its basic good care

I always believed that the guy would walk again, i never doubted it for a second, so his death was a real shock. I am glad however that he was at least able to get some semblance of feeling back, that alone would have given hope to so many. An inspiration.

A sad one for all cricket fans aswell. Keith Miller's gone. Australia's best ever all-rounder, WW2 pilot, Aussie rules star, and Richie Benaud's hero (enough said). I only wish i could have seen the guy play. Batting average of just under 37, bowling average of under 23. He'd be an absolute superstar if he was around today.

RIP Christopher Reeve & Keith Miller.
