Young writer plans to glove up
A young BBN writer, Matt Howarth, is planning to exchange a few blows with a pro. Not as a professional contest but he has written two pieces for us and they make good reading.
What is maybe more interesting is that he has had a BBC film crew following him for months now, making a documentary series to be shown next year about people making big changes in their life. They've followed him round covering a show, gyms, etc.

I met Matt as he came to my gym with the film crew. They followed him around whilst he was put through his paces. There is nothing new in this idea for me though as David Matthews turned himself from journalist into boxer whilst writing his book "Looking for a fight". I suppose however, the BBC will engage a larger audience as we are a lazy lot when it comes to picking up a book.

That's the point, how many people actually read that book outside of hardcore boxing fans, I am all for the interest being shown by the BBC. Boxing needs way to reach new fans, not rely on the same dwindling bunch.maverick wrote:I met Matt as he came to my gym with the film crew. What ever happend to that book in which a journalist tried a host of sports competitively. I remember him in the semi final of the AAA 100 metres and also ran against the very best runners in the 60 metres. He also came on for 10 minutes in a conference football game and when interviewed said that he was preparing for an amateur boxing bout.
