They will do whatever makes the most money. I fear we may see the dreaded champion emeritus bollocks. It would certainly allow them to collect the maximum sanctioning fees, whilst allowing Hopkins to pick and choose his opponents for the remainder of his career, as the emeritus doesn't have to defend their mandatories for 18 months as I remember.
Christ, it must have been a piece of piss writing about boxing back when there was 1 champ in each division. I have a hard time keeping track of what the fornicate is going on most of the time.
I mean, who the hell can tell me with any certainty what is going to happen in the middleweight division in the next year, despite the fact that we have unified belts, the mandatory position is held by a guy who came back from a two year layoff, the guy who was the mandatory for well over a year is scheduled for an eliminator, but the guy who is in it with him doesn't appear at all interested.
Christ on a bike, boxing is a fornicating joke.

Not necessarily, Henessey seemed adamant that he has won the purse bids for this WBC semi final eliminator. So I am sure he'll continue to fight to stage that event - whether Taylor is in the opposite corner.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Well looks like the Joppy fight got made, end of story.
I only hope Eastman gets to fight someone decent either before or when/if he has the title fight. Even if he wins a proper version of the title - I don't think he should be called a world champion untill he beats someone in the top 5 in this lacklusture devision.

Yes, it means that Taylor should lose his eliminator shot. However, how does that benefit Howard, he's already been #1 for ages, and he'll have to fight an eliminator against someone else.
A win over Taylor would have given him a better chance at a shot, Taylor is a name fighter. It looks to me now like Taylor will fight Joppy, then he will maybe get a shot at Sturm or Trinidad. Depends whether Trinidad plans on squeezing a couple more fights in before facing Nard.
