Amazing that Courtney Fry wasn't deemed eligable for the English title. I think this fight is acceptable, not great, but acceptable... but find it hard to believe the BBBoC rejected him for the English title.

I think Fry is one of those who falls into the 'could have been, should have been' ranks - always thought he'd make far more of a splash in the pro ranks than he actually has given his amateur pedigree.
I thought the win over Salam might finally kick-start his career but that only flattered to deceive. Anyone closer to him know why his pro career has stalled so badly?

If Fry is in shape and focussed he will be a tough fight for anyone domesticly. Possible upset if he is up for it

Clev should win I will be surprised if Fry didnt give him some problems though he's a decent boxer but Clev should be out of his league.

Think he fell out with his last promoter or something, which obviously didn't work in his favour.

He's a lot better than his record suggests and as others have already said, he's definitely capable of giving Cleverley some problems if he's in the right shape and frame of mind. I'd put him up there as one of the best in the country on his day.
Should be a good learning fight for Cleverley so I've definitely got no problem with it.

its a good fight mate and 1 that cleverly can easily lose.

the thing about fry is that he was a top class amateur who has seen all sorts of fighters, and styles through his amateur days.
he has a very good jab, a good boxing brain, can mix it up and has a bit of power too.

this is by far and i mean by far the biggest test of his career, with the possible exception of oakey who was only 75% at his best due to the 3 weeks notice. i promise you fry will test cleverly, some of the crabs cleverly has fought to date are embarrassing. i mean the fight with boyle, oh my god, how the hell can some1 fight for a title and get the towel through in half way through the second round, when they wasnt hurt at all they where simply just out classed. that fight was a joke. i cant recall any1 ever before fighting for a title and there corner putting the towel in and saying our man was getting caught with a few right hands and if it would of went on longer he may of got caught by 1 and hurt. what the hell is the point in taking a fight if your thinking if he lands a good shot it might hurt, so we will get him out on the off chance he will get hit with a big shot. and the 2 African fighters i wont even waste my breath on them. as for mclintosh a fighter who doesnt know the meaning of trying to box. fair play he could punch a little but if you know your boxing, youd know how little experience he had, e.g flipping up after getting knocked down smiling and talking all the way through and no defense what so ever. he looked so roar, i know these fighters look good on paper but in reality there far from it.

if cleverly makes easy work of fry il hold my hand up and say yeh cleverly is class hes just schooled a good fighter in fry, but i cant see that happening at all. fry could easy cause an upset but he will at least push cleverly all the way and give him a hell of a fight.

looking forward to this fight i hope to god they televise it :box:

Top 10 world ranked fighter goes in against a boxer who hasn't been passed 8rnds, has 2 defeats on his record and is 34yrs old....of course its poor match, Cleverly will destroy him.

well we will see, but dont be fooled by cleverly being a top 10 fighter, he hasnt fought any1 at all, with the exception of a 75% oakey. and lets not forget joey vegas had cleverly out on his feet at certain points in the fight when they fought, so lets not go on like cleverly is unbeatable.

cleverly is the favorite and rightly so but courtney fry is no mug and will give it all hes got, and most importantly he will believe he can win and will not just be turning up for the pay cheque

Very interesting fight - it all depends if Fry is up for the fight and trains properly for it - As "Deserter" says in this thread Fry is definitely one of those fighters you look at and think "what could have been".

Why are you using the eye rolling emoticon?

Cleverly is the British champion and he has said that he wants to win the belt outright. Who should he defend his belt against, if not against Courtney Fry?

Some of this stuff is maddening to read. Clev has just been nominated for the EBU, which will b a huge step up. Until then he must keep busy and there are far worse opponents than Fry. sure hes pulled up no trees as a pro but he was a Commonwealth Games champ and 3 time ABA winner, plus Salam was a good win. motivation is key but he is more comfortable as the underdog at a neutral venue. as 4...

...Oakey, lets clear this up. a. Clev had the same notice for Oakey as vice versa. b. Oakey obviously felt confident enuf 2 take the fight and c. his performance did not appear lacklustre. Oakey has rebuilt well since but how do u sell that rematch - from a wide points win - to fans and TV? i like Tony and he will likely win the vacant belt later this year then maybe a Clev return 4 the EBU?

Cleverley would stop Oakey quite comfortably if they fought again. I've no doubt about that.
