Kostya Tszyu’s son is a gun

Son of a gun ... Tim Tszyu impressed the local crowd at the Golden Gloves.

TODD Kidd made a successful return home and local young gun Ricky Sharpe won his fourth title, but this year’s Golden Gloves at Caboolture will be best remembered for the emergence of Tim Tszyu.
The 14-year-old son of former world boxing champion Kostya, Tim pencilled in last weekend’s event at the Caboolture Junior Rugby League Club as his first tournament victory.
He bears a striking resemblance to his father and also possesses the same killer instinct that made Tszyu senior a household name in Australia.
But Dad, who has been in Russia for much of the past year, has had little to do with young Tim’s development since he traded in a promising junior soccer career in Sydney for a life in the ring last November.
``I’m always on the phone to him, and he just tells me to keep training hard,’’ Tim said of his father.
The Golden Gloves was Tim Tszyu’s first tournament after a series of one-off bouts, but he stopped both his opponents to claim the junior 63kg title.
It took his burgeoning fight record to five wins from five, with just one of his opponents able to last the distance against Tim’s calculated and menacing mix of technique and raw power.
``I like his aggression, he has the killer instinct of his father,’’ said Tszyu’s trainer Igor Goloubev, who is also Kostya’s brother-in-law.
``I reckon all this time watching his father, he has an idea in his head about boxing he already has the mind of a fighter.’’
The major drawcard for the event, Olympian Todd Kidd had to wait until Sunday’s 64kg senior final for his bout after his first scheduled opponent, Caboolture lad Luke Howlett, weighed-in over the division limit.
Kidd overcame an early split on the bridge of his nose to triumph over fellow Queenslander Jeff Horne in a close contest.

He is only 14 or 15 and is already taller than his dad, as he gets older his muscles will get bigger, he could end up reaching 75 maybe even 80kg

Be interesting to see him fight mundine or geale or pitman when he gets older

I wouldn't be surprised is he smacked them out
