My point was Clev was training for a completely different type of opponent. if fitness is the issue, everyone knows Oakeys always in the gym. how could he improve enuf in a return to win?

Cleverly for me, and easily too.

Fry coulda been a someone in the Light Heavyweight mix but i fear inactivity has cost him dearly.

He may have some early success with his jab in the early rounds but eventually Cleverly's speed and workrate will see him home comfortably.

at least clev is going for a lonsdale belt outright cant begrudge him that and like a few of you have mentioned fry has all the skills to cause an upset. For a start i believe he stayed amateur for way too long and inactivity can really frustrate and demoralise a fighter,
i reckon fry will be either rescued or pulled out at about the 9th round.

cleverly should then collect the EBU if a final eliminator or straight world shot dont come up.

Can someone help me with two questions.Who is the EBU ruler at light heavy and with which organistion does cleverly hold high ranking.cheers

Brahmer is European champion and a good fighter too! Clev ain't ready for him yet imo!

Oakey did't get 5 weeks notice! He was training for another fight that was due to take place about 3 or 4 weeks after the Clev date so he took it and was under prepared!! Clev knew he was fighting and did a good job BUT don't be fooled, The Oakey that fought Francis would have given Cleverly a very good and close fight!

People seem to be writing Courtney off here and let me tell you he is a good fighter who will pose Cleverly some problems, I don't think he'll beat him if Im being honest but he has a chance!! If Courtney does win this it'll be by a mid to late stoppage.. Courtney has underated power and an excellent jab!! Believe me Cleverly ain't faced anyone with Courtney's pedigree yet.. I just hope Courtney doesn't get overwhelmed and boxes to his ability.. If he does this I'd be tempted to put a bet on as the odds will be well against him.. :TU:

I think Brahmer is too strong mate and experinced..JMO though..

I really do rate Clev BUT he is gonna be asked questions when he fights Fry, He ain't boxed anyone with his style and his level of schooling.. Fry is very underated and it wouldn't surprise me 1 bit if he come out on top in Belfast..

Braehmer won the interim WBO title last week in a fight with Kuziemski, that means the EBU is now vacant.

Branco was mandatory for the European but he's fighting Pascal. Woods was the highest ranked after that but he's after losing to Cloud and may be retiring. After that we have Dawid Kostecki and then Cleverly, which would be the likely match up for the vacant title.

A fight with Kostecki should be the way to go for Cleverly. Make a couple defenses and gain some experience versus fighters above domestic level. No way is he ready for Brahmer yet, like someone mentioned. He has only beaten domestic opposition and there are questions that need to be answered. Can he take a punch from a fighter like Brahmer or Cloud? I believe he has been dropped twice correct me if I'm wrong. I'm also not sold on his power. Yes he has four consecutive stoppages but Oyango put forth absolutely no effort and folded the first time he was touched and Boyle was being hit with everything but the kitchen sink and he didn't go down.

Don't get me wrong Clevely has top notch potential. Good size, speed, boxing ability, excellent body shots, but he needs to show these things against a higher level of opponent before I can say he is ready for a world class boxer like Brahmer, Cloud, Erdei, etc. If he is to beat Fry than Kostecki should be his next opponent, he is ready for the leap to Euro level, that I am sure.

Fry lost to a guy Cleverly shut out, so on paper this should be an easy win. Anything can happen but I expect Cleverly to look good against a limited opponent again. Than it is time for the EBU title.

I think its a very good domestic fight. Yes. I think Cleverly can handle a higher level and I'm sure he will go on to but he has come a long way very quickly and I think Fry is a good match at this time.

Oakey should stay well clear of a rematch. He got a job done on him in the first fight and that was by a very green Cleverly having his first fight at a new weight. Cleverly has come on leaps and bounds since then and has stopped everyone after for good measure. I'm sure Oakey would get stopped in a rematch but don't see the fight happening.

Cleverley would stop Oakey quite comfortably if they fought again. I've no doubt about that.
no he wouldn't. his shots would still bounce of oakey. perhaps he could wear him down a bit qwith body shtos but i don't think cleverly will show much power vs durable ppl.

oakey did not appear to be in peak shape as in the previous fight, and in the previous fight he nearly had his head taken off.

cleverly did not beat an oakey at his best. he won, he stepped up, he took advantage of a good opportunity. and he moved on well from it. everything seemed to be in cleverly's favour, but cleverly did please a lot of ppl by beating "bouncy" danny mcintosh on a hostile promotion.

I think Cleverly will beat Fry.

I think that Fry may push him hard in the early rounds but it will end up with another Cleverly win and probably by knock out.

On the point of who Cleverly should or shouldn't fight I think they are actually doing the right thing with Cleverly's career and the match making is sensible, too many of our fighters go straight into the deep end too fast and then struggle.

When a fighter is moving through the ranks, I don't believe in re matches unless they won by a clearly dodgey desicion. I think Oakey and Cleverly are going in different directions now and I reckon that Cleverly could win the European title within the next year whoever that may be.

At the end of the day Oakey was the one who took the fight on, he's experienced enough to know whether it was a good idea or not and it was a great chance for him to pick of a big scalp. It didn't work and people are saying that Cleverly should go backwards and fight him again, that's not going to teach him anything.

I disagree completely, but you're obviously entitled to your opinion. I'd be genuinely surprised at anything bar a Cleverley mid- to late-rounds stoppage if they faced off again.

I think Cleverly is maturing into a solid all rounder and his power seems to be improving a little, although we could hardly gauge that by the two woeful Africans they saw fit to put him in with. I see Cleverly dealing with Fry fairly comfortably; no upset here, I would imagine Cleverly could get his man out in the mid to late rounds.

As for the European situation. There is no way they would let him loose with Braehmer, who of course has moved onto WBO anyway, and Branco has Pascal so maybe a vacant crack could be the order of the day? I've thought for a while now that they might put Nathan in with Woods. It would be a good stepping stone and a name on the slate, albeit a shopworn one. Woods would probably still want to prove he has it after the Cloud defeat - he seems like a proud sort of fighter.

He'll be far too fast for Woods, Clinton is coming to the tail end of his career and shouldn't fight Cleverly!! Saying that he has to come through Fry first which is no easy task believe me.. Fry is gonna shock a lot of people here.. :TU:

I saw Fry in the flesh for Prizefighter. I was really unimpressed and disappointed. He looked awful. I think Cleverly beats him without even going into second gear.

RE: Braehmer. I agree with Tony that it's too soon. Not that Cleverly would lose, but it's too big of a risk to just jump into it. There are 1 or 2 fights in between that would help Cleverly prepare for it. Braehmer's very strong and a decent boxer.

Did you know: As an amateur Braehmer beat Ricky Hatton, Felix Sturm and Carl Froch, even knocking Hatton out in the first round?

Im told he flattened Hatton and he was out for a few mins...Braehmer is a top level fighter. If he stays out of trouble I fancy him to beat Erdei!! :TU:

I didn't know the circumstances of it, so thanks for that. I wish there was a video of it.
