Why do you like or dislike Ricky Hatton ?

Post by FLINT ISLAND »

Some people love him.

Others hate him and call him a fraud.

I feel the latter.

What is your reason for liking or disliking Britains most popular ever "peoples champion"...................

as a person - pretending he loves the fans, etc just down to earth one of the boys - yet he wears £10,000 suits and £4000 watchs and sips booze in Jacuzzis with Wayne Roonet and sits in a VIP box at Old Trafford with Rio Fernadad

And he says he i going to fight in Manchester not America his next fight to reawd fans loyalty then charges Pay Per View

He just bluffs a front of what he thinks will make him popular with people..............

Interesting thread ...

Always stated it never had cause to dislike Ricky - decent bloke, and he has done dam well for himself and British Boxing.

But its like anything when you get as famous as him you have to have a team around you - UMmmmm - will leave it there.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of him- he has done bloody well for himself and good luck to him.

whats wrong with wearing nice suits? does that automatically take away your working class card? ppv? thats boxing, I wouldn't blame ricky hatton for that.

all the bollocks with the Junor Witter saga really showed Hatton in a bad light for me

Bullshiting he would fight him - then introducing terms and coniditons - then when they were met - he made up more conditions

That just shows you he can never be straight with people - he puts a spin on everything

One you lie about something once - you have to keep on lieing to cover up the previous lies - thats Ricky Hattons public persona I believe

generally most people that have actually met him say hes a nice guy and very Friendly
always got time for an chat or Autograph.

i think people have turned on him due to his success / Wealth
we always like an underdog so we all loved him pre Kosta tzu.

i must say on the forums he does get some amount of stick
but his fan base at Arenas over the years certainly support him.

unlike Khan where at Arenas alot of folk turn on him.

So what do you expect him to do?

Wear a pair of £20 trackies, a hoodie, fake rolex and drive an F-reg Ford Escort to be just like "one of the lads" for real? Of course he's not "one of the lads" he's a professional sportsman for crying out loud, his "I'm one of the lads" spiel is what he uses to promote the fights(you know, sell tickets and PPV).

I neither like or dislike him.

I like him, as he took on the risky fights against Mayweather and Pac-Man.

So what if he lost? Takes balls to go to the USA and fight those guys (who were, in and around their peaks)

Achieved alot more than some other UK fighters, I could mention (some recently retired, some still active 8) )

The Tszyu fight, I consider, more a calculated risk, Ricky got away with alot that night - but still a good performance.

my bad memories of him are... :x

the pathetic fat bloke who disgraced himself on superstars.

the bloke who charges people for his autograph and/or photo (regardless of if its going to charity) at after dinner speeches when people have paid 50 hard earned quid or more to be in his company.

the constant avoidence of fighting junior witter despite promises.

my good memories of him are.... :)

the great showing of guts, heart and stamina when he beat KT inside the distance.

his wonderful gestures in relation to the treatment of that young unfortunate lad 'bowers'

There you go then - said it yourself in so many words - thats what I would call a fake person - displaying something for the cameras he is not

I remeber in his post fight interview after the Mayweather fight he had just bagged £10 million payday and one of the first thing he said to Ian Darke was "For Ricky Hatton its never been about the money"...............

I like him, seems decent enough, good for british boxing, took fight against some of the best p4p boxers around but lost. nothing to be ashamed of.
The only thing i didnt like was him gaining loads of weight after each fight then losing it just before the next, carnt have done his body any good, he's got the rest of his life to get on the ale and pies could of at least done the professional thing and stayed in shape.

Because he's trying to sell tickets and PPV's.

He's not going to be popular if he goes around saying "I'm loaded I am, this watch is worth more than you c*nts earn in a year" is he?

a lot of people forget he climbed to the top of the tree domestically, with brilliant and courageous wins over fellas like John Thaxton and Eamon Magee, who were at their peaks....that's one reason why i find it so pathetic when Matthew Hatton bangs on to every magazine , programme, paper, web blog, pod cast etc etc giving it the big 'un when he clearly has a case of Lonsdale-itis which makes him allergic to challenge for the British title. That's not the issue here though.

Sure I get a bit bored listening to Hatton over and over again, it surprises me that he doesn't bore himself tbh..but professionally the guy has been EXTREMELY industrious, not just in the gym but outside of it, he hasn't put a foot wrong and he's reaped the benefits, good for him. He's only done what some people go out and slave for to do for somebody else, but he can do it for himself, so good for him.

The best interview he ever gave was years ago on Talk Spawt, maybe 5 Live, he wasn't very old and the interviewer got 5 minutes out of him..."so you're Ricky HAtton....going for the British title...so your Dad played for Man City etc etc..." and then goes, well thank you very much I'll let you go now Ricky and not take up your time.......and Hatton comes out with " it's perfectly OK, I've just had me tea, I'm only sitting on the couch I've got nothing to do I'll talk to you all night if you like..."

it was fckin brilliant, so guy has him on for like another 15 or 20 minutes it was a great interview. And what he did for that young lad was as good as any doctor in the world if you ask me. Sure I would have liked to see him fight Witter....looking back I think Witter would have won, but I remember at the time I was backing Ricky and also wanting Ricky to bet him....I think I only started favouring Junior when it seemed as though Hatton was avoiding him and when I'd seen just how good Witter could be.....but top and bottom a lot of the haters that do him down now are just jealous IMO they'd be better served trying to have a fraction of Hatton's diligence and concentrating on their own lives.....and as for beer and kebabs, if it wasn't for his "down time", Hatton would have burnt out or got bored years ago!

Now he just wants to give his brother a slap round the head and make him go and fight the winner of Jennings vs. Kell, instead of being a 40 fight foney-poney.......there's UTTERLY NO REASON why Hatton promotions can't sort this out....if Barrie Jones and Michael Lomax and Stuart Elwell can contest it then stop giving us sh*te excuses and GET ON WITH IT MATT.
