"Deserves got nothing to do with it." is from Unforgiven, a masterpiece, people complained about this film? I thought you meant The Eiger Sanction, I briefly considered Tightrope, but there is plenty of action in that one, sex mostly, anal sex also, but action all the same.

now, the question is, can anyone provide the cruiserweight division with Eastwood type charisma and box office appeal? Enzo Mac obviously didn't quite get there.

TIGHTROPE is interesting. He's good as a pervert, is Squint. When he tells Genevieve Bujold he "wants to lick the sweat" off her body, when he sees her at the gym. Imagine if any of us did that to a nice looking bird at gym; we'd get chucked out. Much preferred TIGHTROPE to any of the, say, DIRTY HARRY sequels.

I like Unforgiven. Although, of course, Morgan Freeman only shows up to play the Magical Black Dude Who Has To Die So A White Guy Will Manifest His Destiny, which so makes a change. But Hackman was excellent, at least, & Harris always makes me laugh.

At least you guys haven't brought up The Bridges of Madison County, the kind of film that makes me want to take a machete to old hippies everywhere.

& I apologise for having got the number of monkey films wrong. I won't do it again. Although, actually, as Clint starred opposite Meryl Streep in ...County, I suppose there's a case that he did make that third monkey flick...

I feel UNFORGIVEN is a great ensemble film. Hackman was in his nastiest ever role (tougher even than Popeye Doyle in FRENCH CONNECTION 20 years earlier). Richard Harris just rules, doesn't he. As the guy happy to play off the myth that has grown around him, even though he has feet of clay. I can watch Harris in just about anything. Thouhgt he was great in the moody rugby drama THIS SPORTING LIFE (1963) as the violent and inarticulate Frank Machin; and as the cocky bomb disposal expert in TERROR ON THE BRITANNIC. He "did King Lear" in a couple of films, the gangster drama MY KINGDOM and the great Irish film THE FIELD, in wonderful performances.


As to token black men, is there anything worse than the Nicholas Cage film CON AIR. His black mate has diabetese, needs insulin, so Cage decides that's it, "I'm going to save the motherfucking day."

Or how about ROCKY 4. Apollo Creed killed by Russian Robot on steroids. Cue rock music montage, with homoerotic undertones, of Rocky and Apollo patting each other on the back, holding hands, sparring, fighting...Rocky beats roided up Russian...20 years later - after a maudlin sequel - Stallone gets busted for smuggling steroids in real life.

i also enjoyed that one where paints all the houses red, forget the name - High Plains Drifter, and Gran Torino was a good flick to somebody earlier who suggested it wasn't. It might have been that Terry D you know.

I liked Gran Torino. Great modern parable.

One of my least favourite of his films was Billion Dollar Baby, thought it was a load of guff.

High plains drifter is one of the best, absolutely love that film, where he plays a vengeful ghost.

Ah, your observation re: Million Dollar baby appears to have vindicated my hunch that I wouldn't like it. It sounds completely unrealistic to me. Isn't she a stunner too??........see that right there makes it cheesy straight away......although that said there are some quite tasty boxing girls out there.

It was mostly decent, but as a boxing fan I hate it when boxing rules are ignored for the sake of drama. When her mum callously reminds her in the hospital thagte "you lost"... no way would that have been anything other than a DQ win for her in real life!

Similarly, in Rocky IV, when Drago flings the ref to one side to prevent him stopping the Creed fight - that would have been an instant DQ right there, followed by a fine and ban/suspension, especially with what happened to Apollo.

Enzo Maccarenellis career will continue later this year when he fights in Liverpool Echo Arena.

However his career looks on the decline and he looks to be on the downward slide.

It all started with the make or break fight with David Haye where he was blasted away in 2 rounds.

Since then his confidence seems to have suffered and the Calzaghe training camp with the reitrement of Joe Calzaghe fell apart and at one stage he was training by himself lifting beer barrels ina nightclub.

He switched trainers to Karl Ince to try and find the improvement.

However including the Haye fight he has now been stopped in 3 of his last proper fights (ignoring the Matthew Ellis mismatch).

But just how good was a Prime Enzo.

We know what happened when he stepped in the ring with Haye.

But lets say Enzos prime was when he joined the Calzaghe Camp and seem to have made vast improvement.

His prime wins were when he blasted away Mark Hobson in a rematch and when he flattened Dominguez with a huge uppercut and outpointed Wayne Braithwaite by a wide points decsion.

That Maccarenelli was at the height his confidence and talking about unifying WBC / WBA / IBF titles.

Take Haye out of the equation who seemed to be the man who destroyed Macca's career.

How would a prime Enzo before he got hammered by Haye how would he have fared against the likes of...............
