mismatch
This Friday Alex Leapai is fighting the hopelessly overmatched Hiriwa Te Rangi ( 0-12 9by k.o). I know this is a late pick up with Couser pulling out but still how could this be sanctioned? There has to be a real risk of Te Rangi getting hurt. These match ups do nothing for our sport.
Re: mismatch
I've said it before, Te Rangi is tough as nails, at least he can look after himself in there he might not be a boxing hot shot but he'll come and give it a honest go as a late sub! I'll say it goes into the 3rd round!
Re: mismatch
Tough as nails but how many hits to the head do you need to take before you determine you are tough or stupid?
Come on Guys, might be entertaining for some but a boxers health is more important. Wonder how many dead brain cells he has...![[icon_e_sad.gif] :verysad:](./images/smilies/icon_e_sad.gif)

Re: mismatch
T will come to fight alright. He has a kick boxing bout on Sep 12 against Pola Mataele (boxer himself). Oh well, can;t question T man's heart but I guess taking such short notice calls up have to question his head! this guy is crazy....that's T Man.
Re: mismatch
He's had only 12 boxing fights in addition to the many kick boxing fights he had and lost. You need to see his last fights to know what I mean when I say he gets hit to the head by big punches too many times.boxrec wrote:I've not seen this guy fight before, and on paper it seems like a bad record. But he's only had 12 fights, he's 42. A couple more fights shouldn't really do much damage against "domestic" fighters over 4-8 rounds.adnileb wrote:Tough as nails but how many hits to the head do you need to take before you determine you are tough or stupid?

Plus he's doing boxing a favour. So many fights in the past have pulled out, and caused the whole night of undercards to stop too. Guys like this at least keep the promotions going.
I know what you mean about these guys getting hurt, but surely its down to the license people. If he's cleared to fight, then why should us fans have to worry?
Rather than do boxing a favor, he and his trainer/manager need to do him a favor by hanging the gloves up. Where do you draw the line? when he has a speech impediment? KOed and in hospital?
Unless you've boxed or worked in the Industry, you will know why most of the fights which are mismatched get sanctioned. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work it out. Majority of it revolves around money.
Re: mismatch
Given the circumstance, I doubt Alex will go hard on him, unless ofcourse Te Rangi tries to take advantage of it. :P

Re: mismatch
must be hard on the promoter to ring around to get any top fighters like mirovic, hoppa, cronje etc on a late notice call up especially if alex has trained the house down for this fight.razor7 wrote:This Friday Alex Leapai is fighting the hopelessly overmatched Hiriwa Te Rangi ( 0-12 9by k.o). Can't see too may in Tweed Heads & nearby areas being overly concerned - Boys night out on the piss
3 pro bouts is supported by 7 ams.
Pros Hannan & Jacky are locals & so are 50% of ams

Re: mismatch
dont get me wrong i enjoy a night on the piss etc...but i'd boycott it out of principal. lepei's opponent is 0-12 and having been ko'd 9 times this is diabolical.AntonS wrote:Can't see too may in Tweed Heads & nearby areas being overly concerned - Boys night out on the piss![]()

Re: mismatch
Can understand the frustration for the promoter.
But if the governing bodies won't step up and do the right thing there will eventually be a serious injury.
Then Federal & State governments will once again want to get more involved & over regulate the sport.
Te Rangi isn't the only one who should be grounded. Oscar Talemaira 3 - 22 - 2 is also high risk.

Re: mismatch
There are a few Kiwi heavies who will take the fight for a quick payday. There must be an 0 800 dial a boxer line somewhere.... 8)
Re: mismatch
just got a call from a friend Leapai winning via KO 45sec of 1st round flurry of combo and finished it with his trade mark over-hang right
its the quickest KO ever for Terangi usually goes over 4 rounds

See thats what the fans want to see, a quick bashing
Re: mismatch
Disappointing if true. Should've danced with him for at least 3 rounds.isabella wrote:just got a call from a friend Leapai winning via KO 45sec of 1st round flurry of combo and finished it with his trade mark over-hang right

Re: mismatch
Well, time to ring 0 900 dial a fighter
Re: mismatch
I expected a little more from T-Man but have to say the NSW refs jump in to stop things pretty early. T-Man was dropped early but made it back to his feet quickly. He was under fire with some hard shots from Leapai when he was again dropped..............the ref jumped in to wave it off. However T-Man rose again quickly from the canvas and it is of my opinion that when T-Man was dropped the ref should at least give them 2-3 sec to respond to see how hurt they actually are. T-Man rose quick enough from the 2nd KD to suggest to me he could continue, maybe he should have been given a standing 8 count after the second KD. Just my opinion either way u could see Alex wanted to end if early!
Re: mismatch
Rarely will an OZ ref let it continue after 2nd KD, particularly in 1st round. No insurance policy, so they got to protect their arse the best they can.
Did Alan Moore ref??

Re: mismatch
Not sure of the refs names yet mate. But fair enough i suppose. T-Man may have been able to survive the 1st round and at least give the paying public a few more mins of action, shit who knows may have gone another few rounds, but Alex was always ging to mop him up.

Re: mismatch
It was Cyril Cairns, who's been around for yonks. Getting a bit long in the tooth, but is still good at it.N2 Shape wrote:Not sure of the refs names yet mate. But fair enough i suppose. According to ref/judge Steve Marshall (former Kiwi now Queenslander) Te Rangi was floored & was again about to be when Cyril jumped in. No standing 8-count in NSW
Judges/refs were all Queenslanders as Tweed Heads is on borderline with NSW
Re: mismatch
Even more amazing than the gross mismatch is this is the only card in Australia this weekend
very dull after a couple good months here.
Re: mismatch
About time Alex fought somebody who can fight.
Re: mismatch
Chauncy Welliver?
Perhaps when Cameron gets beaten by Tua he could fight Leapai
