Kahn WILL fight salita NOT murray..according to frnk warren

Post by gemmell »

Contrary to a recent statement from trainer Freddie Roach that WBA World Light-Welterweight Champion Amir Khan will fight John Murray in December, promoter allegedly has confirmed that this is untrue. Dimitry Salita is the mandatory challenger for Khan's title and Warren is currently in negotiations with his promoters, plus Manchester's Murray is not ranked by the WBA and could not fight him next. Also, Roach says that Salita has signed for another fight, but Warren says that this is also untrue.. http://www.eastsideboxing.com/news.php?p=21046&more=1 :TU: :TU: i knew it was too good to be true! don't know where roach got that from!!

I hope the Murray fight happens sometime down the line it would be a good night for British boxing. I think Khan will have to much for Salita and win a UD I hope he doesnt fight mandotarys but challenges the big names in his division

Not being ranked by the WBA didn't seem to stop Khan getting a shot.......

Didn't need Warren to confirm it. It was obvious as soon as Khan was fighting Kotelnik that if he won he would defend against Salita. Easy peasy fight.

If Warren can sell Khan v Salita as a ppv fight then he is a fornicating magician.

did sound a bit optimistic, khan-murray. especially with khan jumping the queue for the WBA title at a new weight. that salita boy can't wait forever, can he?
If Warren can sell Khan v Salita as a ppv fight then he is a effing magician.
i always wondered. once khan won a title, do sky want him to fight good opponents or are they grateful just to promote boy wonder with world title?

in other words, can he fight mickey mouse and it'll still be on PPV?

its easy, he will be very selective of the undercard bouts to be sure to generate financial interest.

He won't even have to do that - Khan v Prescott was PPV - No title and a complete unknown. Undercard fighters that day were Arthur v Cook, Audrey and Macklin.

Can guarantee that Khan's next few fights will all be on PPV, will all be against top 15 rather than top 5 opposition and will not be supported by a deep and competitve card - one co-feature and an olympian or 3 at best.

Dressing the card up with a solid undercard is an expensive way of generating interest I would have thought. Its impossible to escape the fact that whilst Salita is a mandatory challenger he is also a dour, unattractive opponent.

If Khan does similar figures to the ones rumoured for the title fight (30,000ish) how is Fr@nk going to make any dough?

Surely Khan-Salita will be a non-event. Khan will dance around all night peppering his limited foe for 12 dull rounds. Salita sells tickets in New York but skillwise is pretty poor.

His Jewish heritage shifts tickets but masks a general lack of ability IMO.

It will need an intruiging co-main event to capture the fan's interest I reckon..

Looking at this pictoral tribute it would seem that Salita's orthodox Jewish observance of the Sabbath would mean the fight can only take place on a Friday - surely that would hurt the potential PPV revenue streams??

he fought on the undercard of calzaghe vs rjj, that wasn't on a friday.
Good point.

Quite a few Religious sports people eventually set aside their principles in order to progress in the sport.

Wasn't Anthony Thompson another Jewish boxer who wouldn't fight on Saturdays? I notice recently that he has now retired due to re-occurring eye trouble.

Exactly - it's not that hard a sell. Unusual stories and angles always make good press.

Personally I think Khan would murder Murray and will also beat Salita, a light-punching and fairly ordinary fighter....

My thoughts exactly.

Warren will sell it and sell it well in my opinion.

Salita is 30-0 with 16 ko's. The general football or sports fan will lap it up. Sky will present him as an udefeated yank dangerman.

Its the right fight for Khan. What a job Warren has done for him. Fantastic.

Another good post. Hype makes a fight and warren has it by the bucket loads, plus a US v UK title fight is always big business.

Warren is doing a great job of building Khan up, the lad will build up a few defences against solid unspectacular top15ers who aren't massive dangers to him. Its the same job he did with Hatton, Hatton never fought a real top10 challenge until he went in with Tyszu. Warren will build Khan up in the same way, fighting padded record challenges, old big names (MAB/Morales/Campbell) and eventually throw him in against a massive name to cash in his chips, Khan may well sink or swim depending on the stylistic match up, probably sink but you never know.

I wouldnt be suprised to see Khan thrown in with Juan Diaz at some stage, I said a few years ago when Diaz was on top I I fancied Khan to outbox Diaz, who is good but a light hitting pressure fighter/brawler who Khan could outbox. He has since been exposed not only at the top level but by Malignaggi who isn't as good as Khan.

Frank will somehow sell it.

He did a good Job with Calzaghe when he was facing medicore part time boxers for much of his career, i dont see why Khan can't get away with it.

Not that Salita is as bad as some of Joe's opposition, he is still a dangerous opposition imo.

Un fuckin believable.

So the WBA and Team Khan have magically made the big punching Maidana and his interim WBA belt disappear, and the unranked, feather fisted completely ordinary Salita suddelyn is mandatory challenger?

Words fail me.

Frankie Warren and Amir Khan are actually enough to make me not want to watch this crooked filthy sport anymore.

GOOD LUCK SELLING SALITA!
