O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Commonwealth Welterweight champion John O’Donnell and upset specialist Tom Glover will step on the scales tomorrow lunchtime (1pm) ahead of their clash at the Watford Colosseum this weekend.
The two men meet in the headline bout of a Hennessy Sports event which is live on ITV4 from 7.35pm on Saturday.
Another welterweight pairing will also tip the scales tomorrow with Lee Purdy and Peter McDonagh on hand ahead of their rematch for the Southern Area title. The two men met last December in a thrilling encounter that saw McDonagh halt Purdy’s unbeaten run. The Colchester man is confident of reversing that result second time around.
The weigh in takes place at the Park Inn Hotel in Watford from 1pm.
Boxing at the Watford Colosseum gets underway from 6.30pm on Saturday with an excellent supporting bill featuring unbeaten prospects Steve O’Meara, Bradley Evans and Bobby Ward. Sheffield prospects Richard Towers and Kid Galahad (subject to board approval) are also in action alongside exciting puncher Yassine “The Showman” El Maachi also features.
Tickets priced £35, £40 and £75 are available from the Ticketline box office on 0844 888 4402 or via http://www.ticketline.co.uk.

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Four upsets on the run for Glover, not bad....I drive past O'Donnell's place on the way to work most mornings, in the unlikely place of a traveller's campsite, hidden away underneath the westway at Shepherds Bush.
About 30 families living there apparently, the pollution must be god awful as about a million cars pass everyday, non stop traffic heading to the 4 corners of London. But John says he's gonna stay there for life.
Good man, hope he keeps on track tonight, and we get a decent fight too. About 10pm is it?

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
I think O'Donnell will be to skillful for Glover if he boxes and sticks to the gameplan he should win reletivly easily but if he does get drawn into a fight then he may get in some trouble I see O'Donnell points
Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
It sounds like the Commonwealth title is not on the line.
This is probably the weakest fight bill that the promoter could get televised.

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
The bill is a little underwhelming. Glover is a good story but I don't see him winning and with Jennings, Muttley, Watson, Brook etc. doing the rounds then this is a poor fight for O'Donnell. Purdy-McDonagh will be all heart and little skill. It seems these same names are fighting each other on every ITV show.
The winner of Purdy-McDonagh to meet Lenny Daws with the winner of that meeting Tom Glover and then the winner to meet Nadeem Siddique![[icon_e_biggrin.gif] :D](./images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif)

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
although its lacking a big name i think were in for an action packed night
Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
O'Donnell is probably one of the least respected British or Commonwealth champions at the moment and a win over Glover is unlikely to change that situation.
I think that it is a very poor headliner for a televised bill and Hennessy should get more criticism for it.

I think o donnel is vastly underated he just needs to stick to his boxing instead of getting involved in a tear up
Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Does he have the intelligence to do that though? If he doesn't sort himself out then he will have already found his level.diggler wrote:I think o donnel is vastly underated he just needs to stick to his boxing instead of getting involved in a tear up

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
O'Donnell does appear to relish fighting in close and with his draped leading arm and clusters of quick, if not overly powerful, shots I don't know if that will be enough against the European/World elite.
That said, I do enjoy watching him fight and think he should deal with Glover comfortably enough tonight. Then I would like to see him in another testing match.
We should have seen him in with Sheffield's streaking Kell Brook by now. It is a shame for British boxing that we haven't.

Not exciting at all but after the summer break almost anything is watchable. The poorest MH bill so far but watch ITV big the night up.
Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
I think that Brook would probably smash O'Donnell in a few rounds at the moment, so I don't blame Hennessy for keeping O'Donnell away from Brook.TerribleTerry wrote:We should have seen him in with Sheffield's streaking Kell Brook by now. It is a shame for British boxing that we haven't.

On recent form I think you are right and I understand that is why Hennessey has kept him away, but I still like to see the best domestically fight the best, hence my post.Horse wrote:I think that Brook would probably smash O'Donnell in a few rounds at the moment, so I don't blame Hennessy for keeping O'Donnell away from Brook.TerribleTerry wrote:We should have seen him in with Sheffield's streaking Kell Brook by now. Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Did Barker and the rest say anything interesting at the beginning of the show? I missed it.
Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Say what you want about Hennesey, but he is an expert at getting TV deals

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
Is this fight over 12 rounds? I didn't think that a non-title fight could be over that distance.

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
With John O'Ds height it looks like a very-lightheavy and a welter in there.
He does lean in with his chin a bit, he's cagey alright, but not so much that he'll avoid getting clocked by a good puncher when he steps up. Like his style though

Re: O'Donnell v Glover: Welterweight Warriors ready for weigh in
This is an awful match.
Glover beat a guy at LIGHTWEIGHT last time out and is fighting a big welter.
If this was a FW match people on here would be all over it by now.
For me Hennessey is not a good matchmaker
Just an opinion
