PREDICTION LEAGUE - NEW RULES.

Post by the patriot »

Prediction league rules

Unfortunatley BigMark has followed Quixall into retirement and its now left to myself and jammidodger to provide you with the Prediction League. A big hand for Quixall and BigMark for getting the ball rolling, and myself and jammidodger will do our best to keep it going.

As of next month there will be a few minor changes to the rules, they are highlighted in red below - the main change is the introduction of a “FIGHT OF THE MONTH” (BigMarks idea before he collected his gold watch for services rendered)

UD Points win predicted for victor = 7 points
SD or MD Points win predicted for victor = 10 points
Points win (but don't get verdict correct) = 5 points
i.e. if you went for Calzaghe to beat Jones jnr by SD and as he won by UD you would of scored 5.

Predict the correct KO round = 13 points
Predict a KO but are 1 round out = 7 points
Any other KO/stoppage but not within 1 round = 5 points
i.e if you went for Haye to beat Barrett by KO1 and as he won by KO5 you would of scored 5.

Predict the victor but do not match any of the above = 3 points
i.e. if you went for Calzaghe to beat Jones Jnr by KO and as he won by UD you would of scored 3

Each month there will be a “FIGHT OF THE MONTH” in which points will be scored double - ie if you went for Pacman to beat Hatton by 2nd rd KO you’ll now score a whoping 26 POINTS

But beware - if you predict the losing fighter in the “FIGHT OF THE MONTH” you will be docked 6 points.

A draw = 25 points

If you predict the losing fighter you are now docked 3 points.

If you fail to make a pick in any particular fight you are docked 3 points.

If a fighter retires then it is classed as a KO.

If a fight is declared a ‘no-contest’ then 0 points will be awarded.

If a fight goes to the scorecards due to an accidental clash of heads etc only 3 points will awarded for predicting the winner and of course -3 points if you picked the loser.

The divisions work on a 4 up 4 down policy with those in the bottom 4 of the divisions being relegated to the division below at the end of the month and those in the top 4 of the divisions being promoted to division above, except the P4P league where a 3 up 3 down policy will be in effect. To make it that bit harder to get on the P4P list :TU:

In an event of a tie for promotion, relegation or 1st place at the end of a month the positions will be decided by who picked the most winners that month. If it still remains a tie it will be decided by who scored the most points in the first three fights of the month and then by the first four if still tied etc.

If a player failed to play one month they stay in the division but at the bottom of the table and are relegated at the end of that month. If they failed to pick the following month they are thrown out and if want to return will do so in the bottom division. If someone has won promotion only not to pick the following month they miss out on promotion and are replaced by the next best placed player.

All new players will automatically start in the bottom division.

On the prediction thread there will be a deadline to get your predictions in, after that deadline the prediction thread will be locked.

Thanks

The Patriot and Jammidodger

I don't know, new rules sound a bit gimmicky to me. I don't like the idea of so many points for just one fight. Sounds like it could unbalance things. It wouldn't be the best predicter winning for the month, but whoever predicted he fight of the month best.

We're open to suggestions, if any of you have any ideas to improve the league let us know :TU:
(Although I think it works pretty well as it is - there's always room for improvement) :TU:

As for the "fight of the month" - we'll be trying our best to pick right. We don't want to pick a fight which'll be one sided, therefore everyone picking the same fighter. We need a competitive fight which could go one way or the other :o easier said than done

We could even run a poll when the fight list thread goes up so that you lot can choose the "fight of the month" :-?

Let us know what you think :TU: :TU:

Personally, I think it works well as it is- no need for any changes..... maybe being open to suggestions for the fights for inclusion.

No problem, if any of you want any fight in particular to be included on the list, PM me or jammidodger and request it before the fight list goes up, usually about 1 week before the 1st fight of that month. :TU: :TU:

Do these rules need to have their own sticky, when there is a link to them in the first post of all the other Prediction League threads?

Could I suggest as a method of choosing the `Fight Of The Month` by looking to which of your short listed fights was most evenly picked. Just a suggestion.

Also. Thanks guys for setting this up and those continuing it. And If any help is required - I`m very glad to help in any way.

If you mean the most evenly matched fight, then that is the plan mate :TU:

We've experimented a little this month with the poll - at the moment it looks like most think its PBF/Marquez that is the most evenly matched, not my personal choice but who am I to stand in the way of democracy

Well considering that out of the 24 people who have made their predictions for this month - 22have gone for Mayweather jr. and only 1 has opted for Marquez, and 1 is as yet unsure ... I`d have to guess that this fight does not seem the most evenly matched to the guys actually playing

I know what your saying :TU:

It also doesn't help that people can vote even tho they're not playing :-?

We'll know better for next month :TU:

I've just done a quick count and it turns out that the Dunne/Poonsawotsitsname is the most evenly picked. With 22 going for poonsa... and 14 going for Dunne :-? :-?

Now the sensible choice would be to go with that bout for "FIGHT OF THE MONTH" - but we did say that the poll winner would be :(

I don`t really mind either way. But there is something like 39 votes for the mayweather v marquez fight .. and only about 56 players in the prediction :D

You take your time to run the prediction league - so I think its only fair if you have the final say

I think each division should have a different fight of the month relative to the status of the fight.

I've been working for the last several months on a prediction league scoring method that will more accurately represent the predicting ability and boxing knowledge of the participants.

Feel free to use it.
