Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
....after a 15 year pro career.
Highlight for me, his world title win against Rico Hoye and his wins against Gonzalez and Johnson all when training under Richard Poxon.
All the best to Clinton

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
great brittish boxer highley underated because of his fights in america wish him all the best he was 1 of my fave boxers
Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
Best of luck for the future Clinton...... he didn't do too bad for a skinny kid from Sheffield
Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
In a domestic scene blighted by could've beens he is a genuine over-achiever.
Still think he would've upset Cleverley, even in his current 80% mode.
All the best for the future.

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
Good luck, my memory of him was in his European champion days. I think he prime was wasted on waiting for the Jones, Nunn, Rochigianni mess to sort itself out - and then for Jones to give him the shot.
Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
For me he peaked for that Hoye performance, he was punch perfect that night.
He'll be missed, rarely in a boring fight. If only that Tarver fight had never happened

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
I would have liked him to have fought Cleverly just to draw a line under his career.
I wish him all the best in his retirement

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
British, Commonwealth, European and Genuine World Champion. Fought (at the time) the P4P number one, was totally outclassed, and came back to win the IBF title. He had a fantastic career, always showed heart, and at times some great skills.
He should be a very proud man. Beating Glen Johnson, and Gonzalez were quality wins, and the title winning effort over Hoye was brilliant.
All the best in retirement Clinton.

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
his best win imo,was the ashley one.under the circumstances,he came off the loss to starrie and took that bout at short notice and was a massive underdog.good luck clinton.
Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
props to clinton for winning some good belts and being in some good fights, particularly the 3rd johnson fight which i had him winning (only just).
unfortunately ppl will forever remember him for that non performance v tarver, whch exposed perhaps a lack of confidence. he did win back some respect with the cloud fight, and this is the best way to go out.
and thanks to CW for not being a stepping stone to FW's latest hope (hype?), Cleverly.

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
A weak paper titlist gifted repeated underserving shots at the IBF belt, a stay at home champ who bombed when travelling overseas to fight the actual top guys, draws and wins gifted over Glen Johnson, a mediocre boxer who could never have won a title in the days of Bob Foster, Jose Torres, Matthew Saad Muhammad, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Victor Galindez, Michael Spinks, Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Marvin Johnson... Would he have even won a rd against a Virgil Hill?
Turkeys like Rico Hoye sold as 'great wins'? Christ I'm glad he's gone - I'd ask if he'll use his money and retirement to see the world but, knowing his history, he'll stay at home in Sheffield..

Absolutely Iron Clad toughnut who never shied away from a fight. Only ever stopped by a peak and virtually unassailable Roy Jones, but produced some great nights against Glen Johnson, Rico Hoye and Gonzales.

Re: Clinton Woods announces his retirement....
bit surprised actually.
thought he might have stuck out for another few paydays.
great servant to british boxing.
fought a near prime jones, good fights with johnson, gonzalez, hoye.
johnson 3rd fight was his best win.
won the full set in terms of domestic, commonwealth, european and world.![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

For someone who only took up boxing to keep fit, its amazing he had such a fantastic career. He gave us some great entertainment over the years, so its only right that we all wish him the very best for the future.

Won his titles the old fashioned way, picked up a few losses but was proof that if you have ability, nothing can hold you back
British, European and Wold Champ - fought some of the best fighters.
