Wayne Alexander at The Garden?

There's some talk of Wayne Alexander fighting at Madison Square Garden on the Klitschko V Williams undercard. Any truth to that? Could it be Santos for the WBO belt?

I read somewhere that there was talk of this, but there was no mention of any sort of title shot from what I recall. If he does go I assume it will be just a 8 or 10 round fight.

Would be good to have another British fighter on the bill.

yes...they are talking about a december date...why not!?!?

i dunno if it being on HBO would make that difficult though.

Has Hatton still got an affiliation with Showtime? I didn't think they were interested in him or Calzaghe anymore?

Switched to Mandalay Bay i think according to Fightnews

Would be good if they got Alexander and Hatton fights on the undercard.

But can anyone really see Hatton wanting to fight on the Undercard? I think not

Shame it's not going to be at such a historic venue as the NY Garden.
If it's got to be held in the U.S, then that's where all decent heavyweight world title fights should be held. California gets virtualy all the big fights these days.
You'd guess most of the fighters would prefer NY, but maybe the freezing tempartures in December might be a downside.

Vitali/Williams belongs in Europe anyway.

Someone said a few SN would be on the undercard? If it was NY, I'm sure Hatton would've jumped at the chance to knockout someone on the undercard. I've heard him call it the Mecca of boxing a few times.
Alexander deserves a spot too.
Expect Kevin Mitchell to be on the plane over too. Put him in with a decent Mexican journeyman, the Americans will love him.

After Joe does this opponent away in about 4-5 rounds perhaps he should be on the plane.

Mario Viet for the WBO title, easy match to make, easy fight for Joe and its a fight that has to happen if Joe wants to keep his belt.

It's great news for Wayne and if he shows off his amazing punch power and thirst for battle, the Americans should take to him.

How about the high flying Verno Phillips in a crunch match?

Phillips would knock Wayne out. Sorry, but despite that superb left hook that flattened Tak, Wayne looked all at sea and very vulnerable downstairs. A tough guy who can take a shot, fight with a bit of care and targets the body, will beat him and Phillips is tough. However, don't know how much his defeat against Kassim Ouma will have taken out of him though – he took a beating late on apparently.

You watched a different Alexander-Takaloo fight to me DIRT SUGAR.

Wayne boxed well in the first round and up until he absorbed a body shot. Alexander backed off with, then with total control rolled, whilst looking excatly where he was going to punch, and flattended Takaloo. All round excellent performance in my book. To come back within seconds of taking a pefect body shot and flatten your opponent is something very special and saying he will get sparked by Phillips can't detract from Wayne's victory.

Anyway, I'd give Alexander a chance with Phillips in what would be a high class match up and would thrust the winner back into contention. Verno was written off when he lost to Ouma before back came back with a string of excellent wins and Ouma was quoted as saying Phillips gave him his toughest fight.

Sounds a good choice to me.

Yes, they just choose which fights they want to show, and also they had limited dates, which is why they couldn't offer Hatton v Harris on showtime.

Know what you mean. From ringside Tak looked like he was totally outboxing Wayne. Made him look clumsy, one point Wayne missing a punch by about a foot and ending up looking out into the crowd, then he stunned Wayne with a nice right over the top, the best punch of the round. Wayne just looked alot slower and Tak's concentration looked spot on but then he hurt Wayne and got reckless.

From where I was sitting, Tony Connolly of Boxing News said Wayne looked like he was going to get done early and up until he launched his hook, that's exactly how it looked to me. Wonderful punch though – best I've ever seen at ringside.

Will admit, watching it on tape, it doesn't look quite so obvious but believe me, at the time, from watching close up, Wayne looked in big trouble but I've seen him in precarious situations in the amateurs only for him to bring out a punch from nowhere to flatten the other guy. That's what makes him so exciting to watch.

Fair enough DIRT SUGAR. I stand by my assessment, but bow to your interpretation from being ringside. Watching live may have had a bearing on my view, but I honestly don't think so. Having also watched Wayne as an amateur I'm firmly of the belief Wayne can box and box well.

However, he has amazing punch power and this tends to come to the fore when he's boxing. He puts everything into those shots and in doing so puts himself right in the firing line and also increases the impact of his opponents punches. But this is excatly the reason why I love watching him.
